Boatman,
Of course, my original remark was not about fish at all, but rather personal responsibility, ergo, the response by Mark which seemed "effected" as to my intent and the statement's understanding. However, for the record, I am a lifelong hunter and fisherman and a proud carnivore of all flesh. The "overfishing," which I also believe is real, is more a by-product of population growth and demand than the fishing industry's desire to decimate the oceans. If the demand were not there, there would be no economic incentive to overfish. A simple economic principle. I don't believe in a ban, but rather responsible harvesting with realistic limits. However, this has nothing to do with my original statement:
Give a man a fish, feed him for a day;
Teach a man to fish, feed him for a lifetime.
A lesson about personal responsibility that some have sorely forgotten in the good old USA.
Love and happiness, brother Al Green.

Re: What did we Learn from the 60's?

While there was overshoot during the changes of the '60s, there were many good changes. I remember neighbors who had lived separately under the same roof for 14 years without "relations" because divorce was stigmatized and he was a prominent businessman who couldn't afford the scandal and she, of course, didn't want the label of "divorcee". Once divorce became acceptable they parted ways (and he picked up an 18 year old girlfriend, which might be considered the pendulum swinging too far but perhaps not the best phrasing - nevermind).

And the '60s were when women could stop being afraid and enjoy sex. I remember the occasional high school girl going away for a semester or two, "to stay with her aunt". For those not familiar, that meant staying in a residential school for unwed mothers, giving the child up for adoption, and then returning and pretending as if nothing had happened. Or the numerous illegal abortions, some by doctors but many pretty crude affairs. The wide availability of reliable contraception and the popularity of feminism resulted in a massive change for the good, and a bit of overshoot as well.

The world did change back then, and mostly for the better. Now if Oregon would only legalize weed I wouldn't have to cross the bridge this summer to Washington :-).

Yes! Surprised (well perhaps not so) that more women have not spoken of the effects of the 60’s. Is there still room for growth and improvement toward/for women today? Oh Yeah! But the 60’s and 70’s offered us a push of courage, community, and confidence. And progress was made and there is no going back! Plenty are not happy about that, but we are all aging, as the bigots and chauvinists are too, and their misplaced ideologies, and forced double standard morality, is slowly fading with their lives. May they rest in peace

How to handle the present and the future since the 60s. I'm not saying let's go kill all the stupid people. I'm just saying let's remove all the warning labels and let the problem work itself out.

You can tell a lot about a woman's mood just by her hands. If they are holding a gun, she's probably angry.
