Quilting problem

I have just installed oeSENC charts for Canada Pacific coast. At low zoom levels, the display shows all the charts at once, cluttering up the screen so I chart is useless. I hope this is just some string I’ve missed. Help please.

Surely someone must know the solution to this. Or does everyone have the same problem with Ocharts??

Check the boxes for Reduced Detail at Small Scale.

Re: Quilting problem

Plus the Chart Zoom Detail slider - the "d" short cut or at Options|Display|advanced

Re: Quilting problem

This is about how the Hydrographical Offices are handling for example the SCAMIN attribute. No one does it the same way.
No general solution. Add to this the different screen sizes and resolutions plus individual preferences.
Hence the settings in OpenCPN to fine tune. In a different region of the world the tune will be another one...

Re: Quilting problem

Thanks Kettlewell and BCN. Big help and Think I sort of have that issue sorted now. Looks like I will need to adjust the viewing settings depending on what chart I’m looking at and what level of zoom. Thanks.

Re: Quilting problem

Another issue I’m having is with the chart quilting. Attached is a photo showing the area near Cape Beale on west coast of Vancouver Island. You will see from the circled areas that the charts don’t match up. There are also no soundings in Pachena Bay, regardless of zoom level. Is this the best I can expect from Ocharts or have I got the settings wrong again. Can someone who has Ocharts for Canada look at Cape Beale and see if they get the same results.

Anybody else having any problems like these with Ocharts?

Re: Quilting problem

This might be simply due to the content of the charts. No corresponding sounding data on one of it. Does happen. The jump on the coastline the same. What is the scale of the quilted charts? There are three in use as shown by the chart piano.
(I have not installed that set here).

Re: Quilting problem

Interesting observation. I just checked and no matter what I change on OCPN settings no depth in Pachena Bay. Including turning off quilting. It doesn't seem to be an OCPN or quilting problem. It seems to be an oCharts problem. Try reaching out to oCharts. I suspect it is a CHS problem.

Re: Quilting problem

o-charts does not edit charts. Charts are licensed and published 1:1 from the sources. In this case CHS would be indeed the address to rise the observation.

Re: Quilting problem

I have seen some very old CHS charts for Newfoundland “Taken from French survey in 18xx” for example. Another place, Freshwater Bay, the charts do not meet modern standards. Sometimes no soundings are shown, sometimes they are shown with the warning and a plain white background. CHS has also phased out some more detailed charts raher than update them.
