Not it wasn't it's a fake composite. There are even parts of whale in there!

Here are a couple of debunks:
2016's Supposed 'Photo of the Year' Is a Big Fat Fake

National Geographic's 'Photograph of the Year' : snopes.com

But still.. if you don't want to get eaten by a great white don't swim in seal infested waters

DARN! That just burst my funny bubble.

But, seriously, I do appreciate learning when I have have been fooled by fake news or photos. Thanks for pointing that out and for providing the links to the debunking articles.

I guess I just swallowed that fake news photo (posted on FB) hook, line and sinker, or as a Great White would.

Re: Sailing and Boating Funny Cartoons and Photos and Art

This cartoon refers to the green sailors needing to learn the "ropes" (or lingo) about a ship. While it refers to the Navy, I think that joke applies to every encounter between the Old Salts and Newbies.

This would be wonderful if he didn't pick such a bad anchor. Obviously it should be a spade.

Re: Sailing and Boating Funny Cartoons and Photos and Art

Can anyone find one titled "The old salts" or something like that, probably from the New Yorker decades ago? If not you'll have to get by with my description.

Two sailors in the cockpit of a small boat in stormy weather. Rain coming horizontally, sou-westers on, pipes upside down to keep the tobacco dry. Sailor one looks at sailor two and says "It must be plain hell ashore on a night like this."

I'm sure I have it on paper somewhere in the house ...

I have not seen that cartoon yet, but your good description and the punchline made me chuckle!

It was drawn by Darrell McClure. I think it was first published in Yachting Magazine. Vintage 1950's?

McClure was famous for the cartoon strip Little Orphan Annie but he was a boater and did beautiful nautical art as well as cartoons.

My favorite of his cartoons shows John Truesalt kneeling by his bunk, surrounded by sail boat models, praying, "Oh Lord, Forgive me! I went out on a powerboat and liked it!"

I think many Trawler owners have been there.

I've got a large print of "Old Salts" some where. I'll try to find it and scan it to post.
