Typical conditions for North Sea, English Channel, Gulf of Biscay. Is why sailors from that area are so cool

There are very nice posters of the light houses of Brittany with the waves crashing over.

My wife & I rode out two of those last summer. It looks way worse than it really is. It's just not a lot of fun after a couple day's. Enjoy your armchairs, you will face this if you sail long enough..Michael & Brenda..

The worst I did was solo. Ran from henlopen Harbor of refuge up the deleware. The friggin VHF was scwuaking killer storm in madeleine county expected in Philadelphia heading Nsswwe.looking for near Madeleine county on my chart but i cant find it.I'm going **** if I'm slammed up in 80 knits here I'm screwed. Looking fir places to get off chanel and hide and there ain't much. Once in the canal I'm wondering if the storm near Madeleine can find it's way here. How is it going to be in a canal with blinding rain and 80 knits.I never found out but man it's the worst storm I have never been through.

That video should make you think about learning how to heave to or run off.The big fish boats or military boats can bash into this stuff but us sailors cant. It made me think of a passage I made from Antigua to Panama in a 44 foot cutter. In 25 to 30 knots dead down wind I passed an 8oo or 9oo foot tanker that was bashing to windward. The tanker was taking green water a third of the way down its decks while we were dry and comfortable .That video was truly nasty conditions, but what direction you are going has a great effect on your conditions.____Grant.
