Young People Cruising
Hey all, while I love this forum and most of the cruising Facebook Pages, I searched for a group dedicated to the unique discussions, questions, and problems the younger cruisers face. I had to create such a group and hope you'll join me. Younger crowd helping each other and a group not filled with questions that should have been googled.

Welcome Tim. But I'm curious, what are these unique "discussions, questions, and problems” that only apply younger cruisers? And what do you mean by “younger”? At 51 I’m younger than most full time cruisers. Or are you talking children?

I’m not being a smart @ss. I’m honestly curious. What are these unique issues? If you actually posted these questions or themes, you might be pleasantly surprised at how much in common all cruisers have.

Get it right.. us 'older folks' give Google something to do.. else there'd be no results to 'Search'..

Re: Young People Cruising
And I know plenty of younger folk, in fact some with a technical clue, that have sworn off invasive social media like facebook.
Probably better to create your own platform for building that community. . .

Re: Young People Cruising
To be honest, when we ask questions many of the older folks (not all) look down on us or give us the feeling we can’t possible go cruising yet and that we should all work until we’re 65 before sailing.

Perfect t example right here. Telling me I can’t do something. This is the problem I’m trying to solve.

Re: Young People Cruising
I turn 40 ... tomorrow (#$@&!) and the main problem I find in communicating with the seasoned crowd is their resistance to new ideas and technology. They largely come across jaded and angry with the world.
Their responses to inquiry are often " you're wrong, just do it like everyone else and you'll be happy". If I was going to do it like everyone else I'd have a house in the suburbs with an SUV, a dog, two kids, and a job I hate that I have to drive 45 minutes to get to. I bought a boat. I have ideas about how I want to use my boat.
If I want to do it differently than you, that's a good thing for you. At the worst it proves some options are bad, and at the best it finds better solutions for historic marine struggles and the research cost you nothing. You should be happy that there are people out there who want to advance the comfort and ease of marine based life. But that is certainly not the impression that the younger crowd gets from the vast majority of veteran cruisers.

Re: Young People Cruising
My statements intended no discouragement at all of your goals.
Just sincere advice about one implementation detail to help you accomplish them.
The technical clue snipe was in response to those fools that think that older = less technical as an overgeneralization.
Most people I come across know how to setup manage and code a modern website tend to be older. Most younger people not in IT think it is OK to just plug into an existing platform you have no control over.

I believe, in large part, there is conflict in the tone or language of communication between generations. What you are presenting as an option is being received as explicit direction. An example of generation gap.
