Re: How do I quiet a squeaky fender?

In addition to Wally World, try a thrift shop. I've heard old jeans work as well, but I haven't tried them.

Re: How do I quiet a squeaky fender?

When we first arrived in Australia, many people covered their fenders with old T-shirts. That, too will quiet the squeaking.

rwidman, I made sweatpants material covers for our round fender. The stuff isn't really terribly abrasion resistant, and only lasts about 5 yrs. in our usage. Next one I make for that fender will be out of WeatherMax. But, the point is, such fenders can be covered, and if you're interested, send me a PM, and I'll do my best to describe the process.

Ann

PS. I've been covering the "dinosaur tampon" style of fenders for yonks.

Dino tampon lol! Haven't heard that one, thanks.

I'm afraid if you did sweatpant covers in the US these days you'd end up with fenders which all say "JUICY" down the side or some such silliness.

Re: How do I quiet a squeaky fender?

Just a thought... if tied where wage action douses your boat in salt water, the covers soak up the salt and you will get abrasion at the fender contact point on the hull.

I had fender socks in the past but no more... because of above.

Thanks. I can probably figure it out as I have done some sewing in my time.

I don't usually use the round fenders for fenders, I use one as a float for an anchor trip line and I only have two because I found one in the marsh and couldn't locate the owner.

Only once or twice have I used a round fender for its intended purpose. I normally use the cylindrical ones and they have covers.

Re: How do I quiet a squeaky fender?

Extra plus size sweat pants are fairly easy to find. Here's my round fenders with some older split covers....

I cut off the old covers and pulled the round fenders down each pant leg, tying the sweat pants tightly with small stuff close to each fender...

I cut the pant legs to separate the fenders.....

I use these fenders to jam against the bladder of my inflatable dinghy in order to aide in keeping my dinghy from motion.

This leaves me a huge pair of "cut-off" shorts for a very large person.

Fender covers work but not on ball fenders.

Why not?

The coolest fender socks I ever saw - you'd need ball or at least big fenders to make it look the business - were on a maxi-yacht in Sardinia; every-fender was 'wearing' a different tee-shirt, all of which were event t-shirts from the previous year's major yacht races/regattas from around the world.

Because they don't fit.

They might not fit by fashion, but they fit for function. My top ends of my fenders pictured above show a little slack at what was formerly the cuff of the sweat pants. These could be tied close with some small stuff for anyone desiring a better fit.

I don't understand why you asked the question if you already (thought you) knew the answer.

Certainly you can tie rags around your fenders if that's your style. It's not mine.

Many people have more concerns with style than I do and I'm not criticizing yours, but look back into this thread,- I never asked a question.

Your choices are excellent for you as mine suit me well too.

Criticizing style is not usually my thing, but; I'd like to nominate a name for this setup. Instead of Truck Nutz, I think we can safely call these "ball fenders" (lol!) Boat Nutz!

Sorry, I couldn't help it.

Excellent. Next time, you can use pink sweatpants, and then hang them from your transom.
