Some Favorite Anchorages (Pictorial)

Thought if it would be nice for us cruisers to share some of our favorite stops with others and give a short description of how to make the most of it, together with lots of photos.

Here is one I love in the Philippines:

Illultuk Bay; N12 16’.1 E119 53’.14… where a visit to Calauit Island would have you believe you were in Africa.

During the Marcos regime, he decided to experiment to see if he could introduce African wildlife to a large remote island with similar terrain to the savannah. Many animals were brought in and flourished amazingly well, but after Marcos, the locals sharpened their spears and quite a few species found themselves on the dinner table. There are still Zebras and Giraffes to wander around, lots of birds and just a pleasant, relaxing place to stretch your legs.

The anchorage is long and skinny and at high tide you can work your way with the tender thru to the Eastern side. Surrounded by mangroves, Crabs and wild prawns abound and you can easily buy from the safari driver’s son for about $3.00/kilo.
