How would one ever keep any friends. Everyone is a potential business client. As for me I leave my business at the work place. Personally, If I do business with friends I seldom profit because friends don't use friends.

And providing a service or product is public support, where as building money markets is a type of gambling and that ain't what me Mama tought me. Haven't you seen what's been happening in the financial institutions lately?

+1

I can only imagine how quickly someone pushing a MLM scheme "out there" would become the most unpopular person in the anchorage.

I agree. I turned down some work from two friends recently that would have to to around £1,000 because my friends are worth more than that to me.

Is doing business with your friends so bad? I have a different perspective. When I have work to be done, I always approach my friends first and I insist on paying the full market rate. I would rather my friends benefit from my business than someone who I don't know. I have also employed many friends. It can be dangerous, but at the outset I let them know that their friendship is worth more than their contribution to our business so if it doesn't work out, we part friends. Most of our employees become our friends and it is a great priviledge to be able to make a significant contribution to their lives.

Perhaps not, but if just one deal goes sour for any reason at all, it can cost you a friendship.

Friends come in varying degrees - I have some that are like brothers or sisters to me and I will not risk those. At the other end of the scale are acquaintances who I may be prepared to risk.

One thing that I have done in the past - and even this is a rarity - is to do work for a friend who then paid me "in kind" rather than in cash. I had a nice night out in a luxury hotel.

It you started going to cruisers in various ports and started trying to sell them stuff/sign them up, you would very quickly be treated like the scourge of the earth. I personally would pick up anchor and go five miles away whenever you showed up.

MLM burns me up, because 90% of the people involved never make any income that comes close to reimbursing them for their time and investment. So if you want to join the cruising community, and become known as the guy out there trying to take advantage of others, well, you have found your avenue.

There was a thread posted a week or two back under Anchoring titled "The Herding Instinct". It was about new boats to an anchorage anchoring far too close to boats already anchored. From the tone of this thread, it seems that if I hang a sign out advertising MLM opportunities, it might be a great way to deter people from anchoring too close.

You could, on the other hand, find yourself surrounded by a crowd of hopefuls who are convinced that MLM is their passport to an eternal stream of cash whilst relaxing on the yacht. You could either make enemies or a million dollars depending how quick off the mark you are....

Does anyone understand the legalities of doing a MLM system in multipul countries?

I would assume the similarlity to a pyramid scheem would get you in trouble with many of the local legal athorities. Since your boat, and international connections would make you a flight risk, I could see ones self very easily seeing the inside of a prision for an extended peroid, even if your ultimantly proved innocent.

I don't usually watch The Music Man until July the 4th.

Four score and seven...

Get me that man's credentials!

Thanks again!

Try it anyway. I dont like multilevel marketing. But some people do. You dont have to make everyone happy. Just the ones who want to get into the game. So just try it and if you become a multimillionaire remember me ok!!
