Yes, a source would be great.

It would be a pitty because if every boat had it many would leave it on at anchor and the ships would turn off Class B because of clutter.

I could be wrong, but it seems to me that these units would just make it easier for Pirates to locate and accost you! I can also understand why Governments would like them for the same reason.

How about dogs and cats?

Just think how many hours we could wile away in port, mesmerized by the information(?) displayed on our wide-screen AIS plotter!

Why, heck, we wouldn't ever have to leave port again. Just think of all the fuel that would save, not to say reductions in collisions and pesky mariners running into trouble and calling for help.

How do we get off this insane merry-go-round?

Well I finally got around to reading the post from noonsite. What is more disturbing is the part about insurance. Not being allowed into any European port without being insured. That would be the death of many a cruising dream. I can`t imagine that marinas and marine based business would support such a regulation.

I agree fully with the new regulations. Also, I haven't found a marina in the USA that doesn't require you to have boat insurance, so what's the difference?

The boat is the boat. When it is navigating the busiest waters in the world it is for your safety too, to make sure other shipping can detect you. The authorities don't need it, they have you on their radar for many years already.
