Hi Jim and Anne – with that lead-in I should have gotten your interest. Anne you noted in another thread that you believed you had once seen a picture of a motor-sailing triangle. I happened to be in Ystad last week and there were a bunch of dutch boats, so I took pictures. Note that while a couple of them have the triangle tied to a stay, most of them have the triangle mounted on a halyard where they can instantaneously hoist it when they start their motor.

I realize that that might be a little much for most American CF members, since no one in the US has a triangle, much less uses one. But here in Europe they are common.

So this thread is just for the two of you – enjoy your boat porn and buy a triangle

Maybe we need to look into the reduced righting moment requirements of boats headed for US markets...

Wow, Carsten, a thread just for us! Many thanks for the pix. I'll add them to my collection of images of UFOs, Bigfoot, Nessie, Elvis, and other mythical objects!

But I will not be likely to go buy one here in Oz... never seen one for sale locally, and don't need yet another unused object on board. I get enough derision about our anchor ball, and I'm such a sensitive chap...

Your point that they are commonly used in the EU area is now established, and I suppose if I were sailing there I would comply. Being a gadget-happy Yank, I'd be looking for one that had an electric hoist coupled to the engine start button with a over ride connected to the halyards. Perhaps a plugin for OPCN could be written that would coordinate the whole shebang... so many opportunities!

At any rate, thanks for thinking of us and contributing to our education.

Did you tick the little box that says" I certify I am over 18 years old and realize I may see pictures that some might find offensive?" otherwise the video clips won't play. Tick the box then click on the triangle
