What y'all think about this boat for sale?

https://neworleans.craigslist.org/bo...784934929.html

I know more about wood boats and almost nothing about glass. What if it were free, or $500? I'm mostly interested in knowing what would be involved in making it fit to sail. I don't know anything about repairing FRP. Clearly all the joinery and systems would have to be replaced/overhauled.

Thanks.

Something free often is more expensive than something that is ready to use and has a bit of eye candy to it.

Maybe there are two "37 ft Rangers" because the one I have in mind looks like a magnificent design.

Here is a guy asking "Is it suitable for cruising"?

If the cored deck is full of water (and it may be) it will be a gosh awful job ahead of you. I might volunteer to help someone do some of it, but I would not take it on as my responsibility for all the tea in China. I have limited pockets. And that water warning made me think it will require virtually unlimited pockets. You are warned!

Gutting it is easy, compared to re-fitting a seaworthy interior, and there will be too many surprises!

The sails are probably pretty much trash, though they might make shades for you to work under. Maybe you haven't seen many tired race boats.

The only thing that may be worth something on that boat is the Yanmar and if it's been wet/submerged too it's toast. Walk away.

Run. Even with your own ("free") labor, the costs would dwarf the low purchase price. It just won't make dollars and sense.

Sounds like an attempt to pass the cost of boat disposal on..

Re: What y'all think about this boat for sale?

I’m over 45 thousand dollars into my 5k dollar Sharpie trailerable boat. There was no water damages or rotten cores. There is a huge difference between ignorance and stupidity. I was ignorant of how much money it costs to restore beat up boats. Mine is plywood. But you are looking at a cored boat. If she is rotten between the skins Ann Cate said it perfectly... you ain’t got enoigh pockets to tackle this. Also Boatman has it correct when he says someone is trying to get a sucker to buy a boat so the owner doesn’t have to pay for disposal fees.

You have been warned and we know what a financial mistake it would be. You are looking at 2-3 year project and a truckload of
Money.

And more to the point - far better to take that truck load of money and apply it toward the purchase of a boat that is in good condition and will actually be usable from the start.
