Re: Seen This Boat 4 Sale What ya Think???
I think that one would have trouble giving away a project like this. Very few would want to take on such a effort. I remember seeing a (I think) Westsail 32 hull for sale in redwood city, California back in early 80s. I believe it is still available. Unfortunately it will most likely be hauled away as scrap metal.

It does look nice. I fish about 20 mins away from where it is, next time I go down I may take a look.

I think it is really pretty, and would cost more to get on the water than the cost of buying an operational one. Unless it is a labor of love I see this as a loose money proposition.

Do not buy this boat.
Do not buy this boat.
Do not buy this boat.
I can see how it would break your heart.
For mine it's itching for a brigantine rig.
Impossible, impossible, impossible.

It says built in 1980. Was it ever launched? Sure is a gorgeous hull.

Re: Seen This Boat 4 Sale What ya Think???
We bought a 10.25 metre hull which also looked extremely nice and was about as far along as this one (but a lot smaller). In the UK the rough calculation is that you will spend about $2,000 per linear foot to fit out - and that is doing it yourself. It is also a huge commitment in time and labour and is hard physical graft as well. We bought ours in 2006 and have just about finished now although we have sailed her for a few thousand miles already. Bottom line though is it will cost you more than you ever think, will take longer than you expect and will be way harder work as well. Unless you love boat-building and some folks do - do not buy it.

Re: Seen This Boat 4 Sale What ya Think???
I would think you could justify it if it came with a complete rig, and some fitting out on the interior.... This will cost over 100k to splash and make wind...

Re: Seen This Boat 4 Sale What ya Think???
A 150 horse motor for a 53 foot boat says they didnt think it would sail very well. I wonder if they put over size plates, ribs , etc to go with the over size motor, just to make sure it would be too heavy to sail well. The massive 3 bladed prop that would be needed to make use of 150HP would be like dragging a parking brake. Oh Well, I agree that it does look pretty.____Grant.
