That does make one ponder what an Australian John Wayne sounds like....

Re: Screwdriver Set. Whats best in USA?

The Wera set looks nice. I like the etched-in gripping features on the tip. The Snap On ones look good too. But my SKs are up there with the best.

Recently most of my attempts to save money on tools have come back to bite me, like the Stanley pliers that broke, the Neiko pliers that did likewise, and the Stanley screwdrivers. While my top-quality tools are always rewarding to use and never let me down.

I guarantee one thing, when you're sitting on your death bed, you won't be thinking "I wish I hadn't spend all that money on top-quality tools".

I kept some of the Stanley screwdrivers for abusing (prying, stirring paint, scraping) and bought better quality ones for actually using on screws!

One might safely conclude that you require little or no assistance in the screwing department.

Thanks for the advice.
I use craftsman, and at least last year they still do support a lifetime warranty. I had them replace a phillips that had the head chewed up.

For long distance sailing you can coat them with lanacote....

Regarding John Wayne there is so much to tell. He had a PT boat that he jetted around the San Juan Islands in (washington state).

When asked how he got a distinctive walk he said the he just "puts on foot in front of the other".

And the best quote " Life is tough and if you are stupid it is really tough".

Can't say he really said those things but I like them.

New York City don't have tools!
It don't have Sears.

I went into a Kmart today and there's no hardware section on Manhattan. I got lost finding the exit in the Plus Size Bra department. I was there for an hour.

I went to the Ace Hardware and they had *no* tools at all. I said to the guy behind the counter "This is a midget Ace store". He looked up with a dirty stare.

I might wait till I get south a bit. These Hillary voters **** me.

Mark

Get some boeshield T-9 also. All tools get a schpritz (NY slang) every other month or so. Keeps the rust down and the ratchets clicking

"New York City don't have tools! It don't have Sears." Hey, tourist. It's after Labor Day, GO HOME NOW. NYC has at least three Sears stores, on in Rego Park (Queens) and two in Brooklyn, one of those in Kings Plaza which is certainly easy enough to find. And then again, that's just counting what's inside the city line. And somehow, if you've been quarantined on Manhattan, you can certainly find some of the many places that have sold tens of thousands of screwdrivers to the folks who maintain all those scary big buildings, and the subway trains and omnibuses that infest them. A population bigger than the state of Florida, all located within a one hour radius, and you can't find any of our Sears stores? Or a screwdriver?

Brooklyn aint New York and I have never heard of Queens.

There's no hardware stores here just Designer Stores.
And DIY designer stores are where you, not your Butler, rings the architect.

Re: Screwdriver Set. Whats best in USA?

Mark, go to one of the manhattan car dealerships (like mercedes) - the techs will tell you when the snap-on truck shows up .. Then be there then.. They are like clockwork, and without a doubt the best.
Maybe a little expensive if you don't make your living with them, but saving your home ( ok, extreme example) is just as important when you need the tool!
Fair warning.. The inside of the truck is a jewelry shop for guys... Just saying...

Don't spend too much....Snap-on screwdrivers sink just as fast as Craftsman when dropped over board!!! (Don't ask me how I know!)

Re: Screwdriver Set. Whats best in USA?

I've had a wonderful set of Craftsman drivers (and ratchets) since I was a teenager (let's see, that's minimum 50 years....) But, I'm finding I use hex bits in a good handle more and more frequently. Reason? if they round off, they make a nice plop when they go overboard and another takes its place, changing from one type of fastener to another (they keep inventing new ones) doesn't involve owning thirty drivers, and they fit in the Dewalt battery drill for all the bigger disassembly jobs.

Ahhhh. "I never heard of queens". If this was SA that could be an entire thread of jokes and ribbing.

One can take a subway to the borough of Queens. Or there are some down in the village.

Cheers!
