Reputable yards in Mexico to replace teak deck

Hello wondering if anybody has had their teaks removed and replaced recently and by whom Out of San Francisco and could go to Mexico to deliver.

We replaced our 31 yr old teak decks with the Dek King product. Ameriteak did the work in SFO.

We chose the pvc replacement because its more durable, maintains color and is actually better non slip.

Our original decks were only 3/8" thick. While the original deck lasted 31 years we think that is too thin to replace with teak.

The pvc teak is much more durable than teak too. Its probably cheaper for most jobs too.

Wow, what an amazing request. Replace the deck in SF and deliver the boat to MX? Or vice versa? A yard in MX that does decks, then delivers the boat to SF? I don't think so. If you were in SF and going to MX, I would trust KKMI to pull that off.

I doubt it would be cheaper in Mexico, they'd still have to import it, so labor would be less but materials would be more.

You'd need to go farther south, where teak is local.

If you consider the expenses to get the boat down and back, it would probably be cheaper to get it done in California.

Besides, at the end of the time, you'd have teak decks again, with all the problems they're heir to, including, but not limited to, leak possibilities (depending on processes), failure of the new timber (cause most of the good teak is long gone), the sheer heat of teak decks, and the need to wet them daily.

Imo, best rethought. However, if you are set on it, and have fluent Spanish, go for it, and let us know how it comes out.

Try a teak substitute, like iroko.

IMHO, go to Mexico to have the bottom painted with toxic paint but not imported teak decks. For that I would go to Thailand.

Mexico will not allow teak to be imported. So having a teak deck installed there will be very problematic.

thanks, i sent email and they said they do import teak and can do the job. just have to get it there. i would like to know if you anybody that has had a new teak deck done at baja naval.

thanks i ckd a few posts from this forum and i think others that had decks done in thailand and were impressed with quality and price.
i'm ok with the travel, that's the main reason i bought the boat.

I have gotten quotes for work from Baja Naval on various projects as it is a short distance from Southern California. I've been surprised that most of the quotes mirrored prices stateside. While labor is cheaper in Baja California ( Ensenada), it isn't cheaper to the boat owner. Also there is a VAT tax that comes into play. I don't know how it would affect the price of your job but on some it was extreme. And then there is that whole,"dealing with Mexico " thing.
I would research some prices here first and be wary of any quotes in Mexico being the true "out the door" price.
