Re: Refitting a Compass 47

Being that this boat is twice as big as mine I can't even imagine the "amount" of work! Looking really good!

Thanks! We managed to wet sand some of the finer scratches out, but there are still quite a few larger ones. I don't mid though because my last boat had been painted right before I bought her and every scratch that the boat received just killed me. Now if a new scratch is added to the Compass, I will have to add it to the 1000 of scratches already there! I also forgot to add that we dropped the head sail and it does not look too bad. It might be useable for another year or two. It has a small tear on the leech, where it looks like the spreader poked through.

Re: Refitting a Compass 47

Hello,

We are still busy on the boat. We now have the decks taped and are removing the glue/epoxy. I am not too fond of sanding. I am using a 16 grit disk and then Dyevochka is following with a 60 grit on a random orbital. It was quite the pain taping, because all of the glue/epoxy was dumped on the deck without much care. It took about a week to clean the glue from the corners on the factory nonskid. Yesterday I also started sanding the interior. Here are a few current pictures.

Re: Refitting a Compass 47

We finally have the treadmaster and glue off and now we are fairing the nonskid areas. We are hoping to be priming next week.

Nice Compass, gerson! We always have a hard time finding good photos of other aft cockpits. Keep us updated on your progress, as well!

Very nice. Thanks for the pictures. How does she sail? We are a good 4 months away from getting her out on the water and stretching her legs.

Re: Refitting a Compass 47

Greetings friends. We have two coats of primer on and have done some testing with the Kiwigrip. I have to say I already love the stuff. It goes on so creamy and very easily. We have also been refinishing the interior varnish. We have two coats in the fwd stateroom and have one coat in the fwd head. We just sanded the areas and should be throwing another coat on in the next day or two. We also removed all of the cabinet doors from the fwd stateroom and head and will be re-varnishing those in our garage. I have a pretty tough couple weeks coming up with school and won't be able to make it to the boat everyday to work, so, that way, I can do some boat work at home. Here are a few pictures. If the weather holds up we should have most of the Kiwigrip done tomorrow.

Re: Refitting a Compass 47

We also went sailing and saw the USS Independence. Could you imagine having that ship come up on you? It looked pretty scary at the dock.

Yeah, that's the regular grey right about of the can. We'll let you know what it feels like in a few days! Thanks for the compliment!

Yes, this is their standard gray. It seems to be pretty light. We used Interdeck on our other boat and we mixed 50% gray and 50% white. I believe this is lighter. Thanks for the kind words regarding the work paying off. We are having a blast. Oh, and I wanted to let you know that I love the Allied Seawind. What a great boat. I lived on one for about 3 years in my first attempt to go cruising. It needed a motor and I tried to get one in, but was young, poor, and could not afford one. I ended up getting a small Isuzu that was trashed, and a even smaller BMW diesel. I dropped them off at the machine shop to have them rebuilt and both times they were not salvageable. I guess I only paid $500 for the BMW and $0 for the Isuzu.
