Could this Boat be Repaired

What are the odds of doing a good save repair on this and how would you go about it.

The whole bow and maybe the deck is compromised, i see that big crack running to the gunwale and the bow deck área is bend , its fixable but with some $$$ in materials and labor, for free or cheap enough could be a deal...

Even free, I wouldn't. You're going to have to mold and lay the glass back to the bow, and make sure it's strong enough to handle your forestay tension when rigged. Not to mention any residual damage elsewhere from what surely was a huge hit to something.

That boat is well totalled. It would cost substantially more than a replacement model to repair it, even DIY. A similar Columbia 27 can be had for cheap.

..for free could be a long project.. Your gonna need to add some structural reinforcement, time, glass, a lot of epoxy and carbon fiber... be prepare to deal with structural fatigue over the time.. possible.. yes.. with time, patience and a lot of money...

As with most fiberglass it is possible to repair it. But it certainly isn't economical. In materials alone it would probably cost close to what the boat is worth, and by the time you add in time not a chance.

But

It would take a very unethical yard/person to say YES. or Just someone with exuberance in starting their career as a hungry boat repairman.

Just chop off the bow, and remove the ballast and keel and install a 300hp open headers jet drive and center console. And paint it camo.

To repair a boat with that damage, you would find a sister boat.

Take a mold off the bow of the sister boat.

Lay up a part in the mold, a couple of inches larger than the damage.

Take out the bulkheads and stuff that are in the way of the damage in the boat, so you can have easy access to the damage from the inside.

Using the new part as a template, cut out the damaged portion on the boat.

Fit the new part into the boat. It should fit closely with minimum air space showing. Tack/glue the new part to the boat, finally filling the whole seam(s) in the outside fiberglass and the inside liner with glue.

Tab the inside seam competently. This tabbing provides the structural strength for the repaired boat.

Replace the inside bulkheads and things, and finish and paint the outside.

I have seen this done by the fiberglass guys at Nanny Cay boatyard on Tortola, BVI. For me, it was a most impressive piece of work. They do that level of work all the time.

The third time you do it, it's not an insurmountable job. There are two things...

(1) It's great fun to work on a boat. Put yourself in that frame of mind.

(2) The easiest way to get a boat is to get a second job and work at it, putting all the money you earn from that job into a bank account, then when there's enough money, buy the boat you want.

Sorry, but she's toast. If it's yours, I'd suggest stripping every bit of hardware, fasteners, interior parts, etc. plus the lead, rudder & bearings. Then whatever's left, sadly, goes into the dumpster. The parts & lead are worth more than the chunks of structure (formerly the hull).

Just a thought, but if you go the above route, & have a garage or a workshop, cut off the whole transom & say 6" of the attached hull in front of it, & turn it into a wall hanger. Maybe buff it up, or cut polish it, then throw on a few coats of wax to make it pretty.

For the amount of time and money needed to fix this one you can probably acquire three similar boats in decent shape and still have some $$ left over.
