Best color/colour Antifouling?

Just about to haul the boat and splatter its bum with ablative antifouling.

As I am pretty hip, trendy, fashionable etc, etc I was wondering what colour this year.

Does it make a difference?

Thanks,

Mark

Re: Best color/colour Antifouling???

... depending on how much layers you have to paint based on the manufacturer you use I would only suggest to use another color for the first layer. You than can easily see the spots where you need to repaint (on our 41ft cruiser / Racer for instance the rear edge of the rudder) or where you have to put more layers at the next haulout.

Red is always popular and will make your boat go faster..... works on cars....

Re: Best color/colour Antifouling???

Hey Mark and Carsten, I would use a color that the whales like. Ours is black and they seem to like us! All these books about boats being sunk by whales never, ever mention bottom color.

Cheers, Greg

Red bottom paint used to have the highest copper percentage. Don't believe that that is true anymore. In any case, red is the only color for a real cruiser's bottom.

Regardless, red is the most popular color. Tradition!

Fuchsia! I think I would loose my **** if I seen a boat painted in fuchsia. Especially if it was named Pepto!

Re: Best color/colour Antifouling?

We only use the lighter bottom paints if we're on the hard before Labor Day. From September until Spring new bottom coats are trending among the darker shades. Boot stripes are higher this year, but the cove stripes remain discreetly beneath the rub rail. A little sheer and tumble home add a sporty aspect among those more daring. We'll be looking for you on the fairway!

Definitely Red if a multi hull!

Much easier to spot when inverted

Well, blue looks great on your Bene, Mark. Plus, it's the best colour for smurfs!

I just did my bottom, and used red for a "flag coat", then blue over that. Halfway through, I was thinking red looked better. Oh well, next time. Have fun, mate. Boatyards, and the work involved there, sucks!

Re: Best color/colour Antifouling?

Unless it's a green Beneteau. Which most of the ones around here are, at least.

Mark, do each side in a different color.

Red & green???????

And thanks for spelling both versions of coulour, we'd never have gotten it otherwise.
