'Arctic Lady' Sea Trials

Last Saturday I did my first sea trials. She hadn't been out of the marina since arriving in Oct. of 2004, and the start of the refit.

I still have plenty to do, but it was time.

Two friends joined me....we departed Beirut at 1530 and arrived in Cyprus at noon the next day..112 nm...wind was right on the nose and I wanted to give the engine systems a good run-in so we motored all the way.

After a bit of "boat stuff" shopping we left Monday at 1700...conditions were perfect. Wind was 14 KTs at about 55deg off the bow...seas 3 to 4ft stayed right on the rumb line averaging 7.5kts (max was 7.8) until about 0400 when it died off.

Motor sailed the next 6hrs in to Beirut.

It was so nice.

Like I said...I still have plenty of small things to do but at least I can now take her out when I want.
My family arrived a couple days ago and the first thing we did was go out for an hour...it was their first time ever on her at sea.

I appreciate the support and "ata boy's" I've gotten from the CF membership through out...It did matter and helped keep me motivated to do the best work I could on her.....thanks all.

PS..Stripped the splines out of the damper plate of my new trans. when docking in Leb....was lucky..pulled it the next day and was able to flip it over and reinstall.
The male shaft/splines from the trans only entered/stripped 2cm into/of the 5cm deep socket in the damper plate.

WHOOO HOOO! Awesome James! Your Dad must be proud. Sorry to hear about the damper plate. I'm sure you'll figure it out. She looks great, the davits look great, the bow looks wonderful, the helm station and companionway are amazing... there's an incredible amount of love in your work. She is truly a yacht. You should be very proud. Enjoy her my friend, you deserve it! C

Thats 3.5 cm wide webbing that pulls it up tight against the under side of the davits.
The dingy is rock solid. Last time we went out it had two adults sitting in it... good view from up there.

Im not far behind you...but miles behind your craftsmanship and over all completion level....mine has been a battle with little control...being at the mercy of Insurance and a yard.

I saved this picture to my computer and have a place picked out in my boat for it to reside already .

Sail the nickers off her my friend... and I pray all those beautiful girls of yous take to the sailing life....I have a feeling they would follow you about anywhere though...

It may be awhile before James has a chance to respond, Scott, as he's traveling and essentially incommunicado until after August 5, more or less. I'm confident, though, that he would want to thank you for your kind words so I will do that on his behalf until he has a chance to post his thanks himself.

And I'll just add my agreement that James is, indeed, a master craftsman . . . or he gives excellent directions in Arabic.
