yanmar ysb12

hi,

trying to get my yanmar back up and running and found this bit on the top and for the life of me, i cant figure out what wires go to it.... wires were already gone when i bought it. any help would be amazing!

Looks like someone has plumbed two temperature sending units.



Perhaps someone else knows why someone might do that, but I sure don't.

Though I do not believe its a very accurate way to monitor temp or trigger the warning lite/buzzer.
It should be in the coolant stream, with coolant/water flowing over them.

I appreciate all your help would it be worth it for me to pull the whole thing and replace it with a new temp sensor and gauge? all I have now is a little light to connect it too.... no gauge at all..

the upper is just a temp sender,and non standard.

as others have said it should be plumbed directly into the coolant chamber to be effective.

50degrees Celsius is only, 122 Fahrenheit that's not overheat temp.
However it's a seawater cooled engine, so I think the temp sender is adequate.
You really don't want much temp, as salt comes out of solution in higher temps, below 140 Fahrenheit is adequate.

You could get the gauge and remove the pipe plumbing.
Then just install the temp sender in the hole and connect to the gauge.
Possibly you could find a gauge that has a buzzer in it and goes off at a selected temp.
