Re: Need Help for Westerbeke 4-107 Starter Replacement

Do you have the engine serial number it will tell you more about your engine
I think you have a 108 starter there.Serial number is located in front of Injector pump on block. The manual is available on line in many places free.

Re: Need Help for Westerbeke 4-107 Starter Replacement

Yeah I have serial number. Full nameplate data, as a matter of fact. Westerbeke apparently has no information. I have a couple of different manuals. However there was more than one starter used for these engines. I have reason to hope that the starter I have ordered will work just fine. It is almost perfectly identical, same voltage, rotation, and teeth number. I will post again when I have tried it out.

Re: Need Help for Westerbeke 4-107 Starter Replacement

Growley, hope your eBay starter works out!

It might be worth mentioning for anybody reading this thread, for starters and alternators, local specialty shops are always worth checking out, especially if you're near any large port city. Shops specializing in electric ancillaries for trucks and industrial vehicles are sure to be found near any good sized commercial port.

Starters and alternators can be rewound, commutators and bearings replaced, all in a short time, often for less money than buying (and shipping) a replacement.
