I have a
Irwin 37 that needs a lot of love. I have pulled the
Perkins 4-107
engine and I am finishing up the
rebuild. The SN is 107U41762. The previous owner had "lost" the starter. I ended up
purchasing a rebuilt Lucas M45G 26163 4.77 starter. The problems are the length of the gear/bendix assembly and the bolt pattern. The 26163 has the
gear behind the flywheel and is pulled forward to engage the teeth. The second problem is the the starter has a bolt circle with two mounting holes. The
engine mounting plate has a three hole bolt circle with about a 5" diameter. The circles are at 12, 3 and 6 o'clock. I do have the 3/4" spacer that goes between the mounting plate and the starter. Does anyone have a lead or hint on the original make and model starter for the engine? Has anyone had any luck with an aftermarket starter that fits? Any help would be greatly appreciated.
Thank You,
Jerry
