False mostly. The human body contains a lot of iron, yet try sticking a magnet to your skin.

True. And these folks form the target demographic for products like Algae-X...

If "freer passage" is what you want, why not just remove the fuel filter then...

Re: I Tried to do a Search on Algae-X, but...

Hello everyone, perhaps I can be of assistance...

"Algae" in the context of diesel fuel refers to agglomerated fuel masses (sludge). Actual algae can not live in diesel fuel but it can live in the water layer in fuel tanks.

The magnetic treatment of diesel fuel works on the molecular level to disrupt the electronic bonds of the fuel particles causing them to break apart. Doing so causes the fuel to flow freely through filters and returns the fuel back to its original state (clear & brightly colored).

There's lots of information on ALGAE-X's website including white papers, test reports and FAQs. I encourage you to browse around to find the answers you're looking for. Also, feel free to contact us. We're happy to explain it all to you in detail. You can call us toll free 1-877-425-4239.

We are in the process of completing an 18 month test on Algae X and it's efficacy for dissolving and controlling sludge and corrosion. We are approx 6 months in. I will post when completed.

Re: I Tried to do a Search on Algae-X, but...

The test results quoted indicate that your product was used with a fuel polishing system, and that when the two products are used in combination the fuel has less sludge in it. Given that everyone here would agree that filtration plus water separation is a good idea and will get crud out of fuel, there is no suprise in these tests.

Show me the test result where Algae-x used alone provided the same results and I would reconsider the value of your products.

Frankly I find Algae-x to be just this side of criminal. The entire product is a fraud committed against people who should know better, by people that do.

Tim, what is your commercial relationship with the product?

And have you established a full double-blind protocol, or are you just using the stuff and writing up observations from one installation, with no standard to compare it against?

Contrast these devices with a simple two or four hour equalization where I do and can measure improvements in as little as 2 hours. I have one "deulfator" that has been on the battery now for over 6 months. In that six months zero improvement or change in either MCA, CCA or capacity as tested with a Midtronics analyzer, Argus analyzer and a 20 hour capacity test.. The sister battery that came out of the same "paralleled" bank went through three equalization cycles and had a 130 CCA improvement... 6 hours and 130 CCA improvement vs. 6 months and zero measurable improvement....

Funny that every desulfator I have purchased and tested has a company behind it that has not used any sort of test equipment to measure changes in actual batteries.

Perhaps you can lead us a desulfator that actually works? I've been looking for one... Bill and I have not been able to find one that does anything but make your wallet lighter.....

Re: I Tried to do a Search on Algae-X, but...

We developed at "jar test" with an independent federal lab (Brookhaven National Laboratory) to test the efficacy of biocides and additives against their claims to dissolve and prevent sludge in diesel fuel.

The test consists of growing sludge in a jar of diesel fuel by introducing a little water and letting nature take its course. (takes months to get started) Once the sludge is present, we then introduce the additive at the recommended treatment ratio based on the volume of fuel present and manufacturer's recommendation.

Once a month, we remove the existing fuel and replace with fresh fuel and treat the new fuel. We repeat this process over an 18 month period.

The jar also contains a metal coupon that is evaluated for corrosion and sludge at the end of the test.

At the end of the test, we remove the coupon and photograph it and it is scored based on the amount of sludge build up. We then wash the panel back in the fuel and strain it through a strainer and photograph the amount of sludge in the strainer.

We then assess the panel for corrosion. We have done this with 100's of additives that claim sludge and corrosion protection. We get varied results with some products performing better than others.

Algae-X is a biocide. It kills bacteria. Our study shows that biocides are effective against fungal growth but much less effective against bacterial based sludge colonies. The "glue" (exopolysaccharide) that binds these colonies together is quite resistant to biocide attack therefore, biocides are not very effective once the colonies have formed.

Biocides can also be corrosive and lose their efficacy in a system over repeated use.

The magnetic systems are a mystery to me. I have been told by competitive manufacturers that they work and there are many testimonials in the field from larger vessel owners. Polishing on the other hand is different as it centrifuges the contamination out of the system.

Purifiers were first developed by the navy and are effective at removing water from the system. There are a few brands out there that I am aware of; Algae-X and Diesel Craft. I am sure that there are others. I am not aware of them.

Conventional fuel additives really do not have an application in marine environments as they generally do nothing to help with the sludge issue. They contain petroleum distillates that can clean injectors as well as cetane boosters to help with ignition. Cold weather modifiers are produced by Afton chemical and most fuel additive companies use these ingredients to blend in to their winter blend products.

I will post some results of lab tests in another response.

I have no commercial relationship with Algae-X.

Re: I Tried to do a Search on Algae-X, but...

Apparently Algae-X are now making fuel additives, not just the magic magnetic fuel conditioner, so if you are talking about their additives, that's not the same thing as "the" Algae-ex product, the magic magnetic box that has been repeatedly disproved.

Would I buy an additive from people who sell magic boxes? Personally, no. Not unless the ingredients said exactly what was in it, and I was just using them as a source of bulk chemicals unavailable from a better source.

Magic magnetic fuel conditioners have been advertised as "used on Naval vessels!" and in fact they have been. What isn't advertised, or readily known, is that federal law requires anything anyone submits to be "used on Naval vessels!" as part of milspec testing. And in the case of the magnetic conditioners, the milspec under test was one that says the box must stay firmly bolted to the bulkhead--nothing else.

Magic!

Algae-X started with fuel additives. The magic boxes came later.

Re: I Tried to do a Search on Algae-X, but...

The links posted by Algae-X above were written by Wouter Lisseveld who just happens to be the Chairman and CEO of Algae-X international. Still no links to any scientific papers to prove the efficacy of Algae-X. And certainly no links to any accredited independent labs. I didn't answer the Algae-X post because I was hoping it would just go away. Unfortunately it didn't. Oh, by the way, the labs that did the experiments on water used very high level magnetic fields and some tests required 72 hours in those fields to show any change.

Obviously.

You have a commercial relationship with Fuel Right. I recognize the explanation.

Please post the lab report.

Re: I Tried to do a Search on Algae-X, but...

Lab reports are meaningless without the associated quality assurance program and related data and particularly meaningless when produced by the only party with No objective viewpoint or consideration.

The lab reports would be useful if only as scrap paper to wrap around the AlgaeX crap before being tossed in the garbage.
