Your broker can access Soldboats.com through his Yachtworld account. Ask him to print out the listings of similar cats that sold this year, and you can compare the asking prices with the actual prices at which they finally sold.

I'll set you up with a cruise-ready Catamaran of 42' in length with all the bells and whistles*. You give me $295k and I'll take whatever profit I can make from the deal.

So what are reasonable replacement cycles for the main items (that live in tropics) to go offshore as follows:
-thru hulls bronze ??
-thru hull plastic 10-12 yrs
-standing rigging 10-12yrs
- working sails 10 yrs
- LA batteries 5-7yrs
- sail drive ??
- engine inspection.

What do people think of this list?

The Brokers can pull that up, we were actually able to find out what the PO of my boat paid for her as he didn't keep it long.

-thru hulls bronze ?? with good service, forever

-thru hull plastic 10-12 yrs - shouldn't be plastic, Marelon will last forever with proper exercising and lube

-standing rigging 10-12yrs - pretty good

- working sails 10 yrs - sometimes more depending on care

- LA batteries 5-7yrs - pretty good, also depends on care & feeding, as Maine Sail says: "Batteries are killed by their owners."

- sail drive ?? - don't get me started; Devil's spawn, requires periodic and regular seal replacement; a dumb BIG hole in a boat waiting to pounce

- engine inspection. - ongoing and regular; always inspect your engine when it's running, 'cuz when it' off it won't tell you anything

You just saw the tip of the iceberg.

Good luck.
