Thanks bean... I was also a bit surprised at the ceiling height, but the price isn't terrible...

well, no wonder, you were daggerboard guy.

not sure how much trust should one put in lagoon weight and sail area data.

Mine is 10.3t and 95.6m2 sail area if one believes specs.

Re: New Lagoon 40

yeah i know not fair comparison to my boat but its nearly 10sqm smaller than yours too...

Obviously the aft set mast is the reason but i was just amazed it was so small as well as back.

wont be doing much light wind sailing this one im guessing

Re: New Lagoon 40

What is the sail area of the L40?

Main plus # 3 self tacking jib or main plus genekar or something inbetween both.

Which sails are we adding together to compare apples to oranges?

Barra “wont be doing much light wind sailing I am guessing” unless, you maybe hoist a light wind sail I am guessing.

New Lagoon 40

I agree with Barra. The Lagoon 40 is 38'6", close to our cats 38' length. It weighs almost 3 times as much but only carries 100 sq Ft of sail area more. I wonder what it's lwl to beam ratio is? The specs pretty much state it isn't going to be a great light air performer but will probably make a desirable cruising cat.
My mistake. On edit it is close to 4 times the light displacement of our cat.

Re: New Lagoon 40

Haha well I havnt been on c.f. for awhile but thanks for the refresher on how touchie some of you are on the multihull thread. Nothing has changed i see.

Heavier than the l400 and 10% less sail area but querying it's sailing in light winds is blasphemy!

Pull the other one.

Re: New Lagoon 40

Nobody is touchie, just to many times it comes across like mine is beter, faster or lighter than model xyz. Instead inform us which model boat you are comparing it to, what is the size of the main, self tacking jib and genekar on said boat.

Then we can all make an informed decision as to wheather Lagoon or some other manufacturer has cocked up again or not.

Maybe it is you that should read what I actually wrote in post #8, in response to your first comment.

All I did was ask a question as to what sail area and how you arrived at it for the Lagoon 40 that you used in the comparison to your vessel.

Then offered a suggestion as to how it might possibly be able sail in light winds.

Finally gave a thumbs up to another respondents comment in the same thread.

If you wish to wave your "Emulsified High-Fat Offal Tube" in my direction that's fine, but I was actually interested in what you said and only wanted to understand what you were comparing with what.

Yeah nah reread it - definitely a touchy response - but to clarify the specs are in the first reply from beancounter that i guess you missed and show one of the lowest SA/D's ive seen that self evidently will struggle in light winds especially to windward.

The most relevant comparison is to the predecessor 400 and frankly they make it look like a performance cruiser dont they.

All hail the mighty lagoon 400 that can do no wrong (in comparison to the new 40) - happy now?
