Me too! Looks pretty conventional to my eye, but my vision is the pits these days!

Maybe he is looking from the helm, which appears to be inside. I'd like to also be able to steer outside.

Re: Million dollar catamarans

Oops, silly me, I counted all the clew patches including for the full main.

Even so, that’s a hell of a long 3rd reef, assuming it’s run from the boom up to the clew and back down to the boom. The photos aren’t great resolution but I can’t see any reef lines at all.

Just had a Dream Yacht Charters Lagoon 620 motor by, what does one of those things cost, and why do people need that big a boat?

I used to think a smaller boat was good
But then we did a delivery on a big one and the smaller boat didn't cut it for us any more.
As full time cruisers we couldn't imagine going back to anything smaller than what we have and a 65 ft version would be ideal.

Assuming they have the means via disposable income...

SPACE!
Every boat owner I know including Superyacht owners would modify their "next" boat with a little bit more room, here or there, to add that extra comfort.
Experienced Superyacht Owners allow more room and comforts in crew quarters to keep good crew happy.
Lagoon 620 Owners want the missus to be happy for same reasons

There has to be a point size wise where it gets to be a pain, like draft does.
Many Mega’s I see anchored way out due to draft restrictions, for example, and at some size the boat has to be a bear to handle, so you get crew, which takes a bigger boat, endless circle.

I've docked next to a few of them in Aruba and Curacao. Toured one of them. Used good condition, a litle over one million USD.
Looked up the specs, approximately twice as long and four times the weight of my boat but only two times the sail area. Mine isn't exactly a Gunboat in the SA/D category.

I was not impressed with the build quality, lack of handholds, etc. I was impressed with the scale of it all. The flybridge felt as big as all my living areas combined. The galley was port aft. I've lived in apartments with smaller kitchens.

Personally, I agree with you, but larger yachts to the size of +250 ft is all about time management for their very demanding owners.

Anchoring further out insures more privacy and commuting to shore by helicopter or large 30ft launch makes it easy.

In any case, with over 30 crew and a moving 6 star hotel, your key people of interest...come to you.

Zero speed stabilizers, dynamic positioning where you don't need to drop the anchor. Sound insulation @45Dba at 12 knots means that the Owners life on board is seamlessly focussed on enjoyment, family, business in no particular order.

Takes incredible wealth and staff organization to make it happen and is as far removed from flying a Cessna vs the Space Shuttle, as we enjoy on our variety of different small yachts.

For me, something becomes too big, when you can't fix or jury rig any of the major broken components yourself.

Then, you have lost that independence that the Super wealthy gave up many years ago, to build their empire

Re: Million dollar catamarans

I can have fun with anyone. Never had a problem with socializing. I do not have envy of others that have more things than me and I do not gloat over those that have less things than me. In the end, we are all in the same boat... that is to say, we all own a depreciating asset that sucks the life out of us. Who can afford a million dollar boat? A lot of people. I hate to break it to you but 1 million dollars really isn't that much money anymore.

This is true.

In any case, why do people care what boats others have got? Are you happy with yours? Yes=great! No=look within [emoji16]

I think calling someone a dick is straying from the be nice forum rule, no?
