Quite cheap even if a major project. I believe that boat was in Nelson, NZ for several years. Very surprised to hear it is a 1990 build if it is the same boat. Was quite neglected in Nelson in 2011 with green trim. Maybe a different boat, but fairly certain was another SR 40 with ugly dodger and same name.

Keen to hear any additional info.

Great thread! I'm just starting to look into project Multihulls for a bigger project of mine...
Can do most of the work myself, so even an empty hull(s) would do :-)

Well, here we go--- I just bought an older Cross 38' moored in Morro Bay for cheap. I spent an hour crawling in the amas with a flashlight and plastic hammer and detected no dry rot. The deck needs all sanding and repainting but no soft spots. Standing rigging looks good. The boat has been sitting for over three years and has a lot of growth on the bottom. Bilges had just a little (fresh) water in the aka, amas were dry. Comes with a newer 15 HP Honda 4-stroke w/ remote and an upscale bracket (hasn't been run in three years); aft cabin w/ head and holding tank; roller furling; cabin-mounted propane heater vented; 3-burner stove w/ oven; double sink w/ footpump; 3 solar panels; a nice windlass w/ three anchors w/ chain and rode; the inside is dry and quite roomy w/ no indication of deck leaks....
I know I'm crazy but it's my dream to be on a tri and now I will be. Please don't be too hard on me, just constructive...

Hi Stevelf, congratulations I wish you many happy hours with your new lady. BTW now that you are a tri owner you will probably want to get all the tri terminology down… the water you found was probably in the vaka, not one of the akas

Good luck with the cross. I find it takes nearly a full day just to fully inspect the structure on a tri that size.

You guys just aren't paying attention. That aluminum cat thing was on this thread way back. The radio tower mast doohicky was discussed already. And the price does keep going down. So from now on, try to keep up.

well played sir. I've been running around in the woods of big sur for a bit. that's my excuse and I'm sticking to it. All the same. Look at those outboards vs. the windage. Like a nautical rosanne barr in tiny stilettos.
