The IP 40 is a great boat--congratulations! One of the nice things about buying an IP is that the vast majority of IP owners take meticulous care of their boats. Also, you'll find the factory folks to be very supportive if you need to call on them.

If you are leaving Maryland, apparently you will be sailing down the bay for the first few days and leave for offshore from Hampton Roads. That should give you plenty of time to <start> becoming familiar with the boat and to serve as a short shake down of the boat. If you have problems going down the bay there are many places to get service, such as in Solomons, Deltaville, and many places once you get to Hampton Roads.

Check your tank vents, all three of mine were clogged with dirt dobber nests. Real easy to check and fix at the dock, not so easy in 5' seas.
Second a real good tool kit, hand full of tie wraps and duct tape, electrical tape, multimeter etc. I didn't need any of this stuff, but I'm sure I didn't only because I had it.

You'll love the boat, solid as a rock with enormous storage, I'd love to be taking the trip

Thanks for all the recommendations folks. We're just finalizing our packing thanks Southwest for the 2 free checked bags. Going to be a busy weekend trying to get familiar with the boat and where all the spares are, as well as shopping for the gear we still need. The logistics for a first trip is always hectic, and doing so much up it while 1500 miles away from the boat has really added to the...excitement.

This is the reason we're using the delivery skipper we selected. Tons and tons and tons of experience with IPs and seems to be a genuinely nice guy as well. Nice to find someone that willing to teach us along the way for this first sail.

We're toying with the idea of ending the first leg of the trip in the Bahamas vs South Florida, since it's really about the same distance. Would allow my wife and I to go enjoy a bit of cruising over the Christmas Holidays and then bring the boat around to Texas in the Jan timeframe. Still on the fence since adding insurance coverage for the Bahamas isn't cheap...still might be worth it to have some time to play in the Bahamas before coming home. We'll have to make that call this weekend before we leave. Either way. I'll likely start another thread for the trip and update as time and Interweb permit.

If you can work it in, hit the Bahamas! It's a long way to the Bahamas from Texas, so why not take advantage of your location now? On the negative side, it's going to be a cold trip home in January.
