Re: Ted Brewer 42

- When I purchased a Ted B. Canyon 43' I contacted Mr. Brewer and purchased a set, for reference only. He was a pleasure to visit with. Refugio will be back in the water next November (22). Canyon Industries, Hull 2, formerly Toodleoo.
- GordMay, I agree with your thoughts on "doing it right" I want to sail for next 20years not work on half right systems.

Yep, she was in South Australia at the Squadron. Lovely couple who owned her, we caught up once or twice after they sold her but they’d decided they’d sailed far enough.

A superb example of the make and model, I’m sure you’ll get great joy from her. Fair winds and all that sort of thing.

Re: Ted Brewer 42

Wow, you certainly started at the big end.

For the record, they never once, in my memory, called it a Cape North 43, instead referring to her as a Ted Brewer design. Not sure why they described it this way, but it seems pretty clear to me now that it is, indeed, a Cape North.

It’s on our short list to replace the Swanson 42 in a few years, along with a couple of other Brewer designs and a Rob Perry or two. The short list is down to about ten boats now, not all that short I guess.

No not exactly a short list ! All the best with your hunting and thanks for your messages. I believe the owners you would have met would have been Jo as well.

They are stunning boats. We looked at a PH; it was past saving but it was the best boat design I’ve ever seen.

Re: Ted Brewer 42

I'm intrigued that there are many references to the "Brewer bite" in his designs. Yep, he does do the cutaway forefoot well, but there were plenty of others doing the same, and in some cases doing it before him (if the info on sailboat data is to be relied on).

I wonder why it was attributed to him in this way?

"Ted Brewer reviews the ins and outs and ups and downs of keel design"

The “Brewer Bite” is NOT a cutaway forefoot, but a “bight” taken out, between the [full or modified] keel, and the rudder.
You're right - he didn't invent it.

Oh dear, I always thought the bite was at the front. Thanks for disabusing me Gord May.
