Re: Shannon Yachts: is there any interest in a Shannon owners Forum?

Good luck with your rebuild! You'll find Bill Ramos to be a big help. He gave my wife and I a tour of Shannon after my wife and I bought our boat from a private party in Rhode Island. Even though we didn't buy our boat from Shannon, he has been happy to answer any questions I had about the boat while I have been working on getting her ready to be a live aboard.

Re: Shannon Yachts: is there any interest in a Shannon owners Forum?

I'm still very interested in starting a group and I'm encouraged by this thread; we may be few but we're the lucky few.

Luke's point is well taken. We're all better off sailing and/or getting ready to sail. But I think an owners group could be really useful in the long run.

Before I bought my Shannon I ended up joining 3 different owners' groups for research purposes: Southern Cross, Tayana and Morgan. The SC group is a periodic email and annual meet-up, the Tayana owners use google groups as pretty much their own discussion forum, and the Morgan forum is more of a message board with links.

I think the Tayana format of google groups is ultimately the most powerful, but I'm afraid it relies on a larger number of participants than Shannon ownership has available. Plus it's probably better to rely on cruisersforum for general maintenance inquiries.

I think if we could instead have a place to upload our own info, post about ongoing projects, and ask questions to each other, it could be great. Something like a growing archive with a very basic forum.

I'm going to see if I can get something started in the next month or two. I apologize in advance if the quality is not on par with our namesake the Shannon, but I will gladly accept any feedback or help if/when I manage to get it going.

Jack

Re: Shannon Yachts: is there any interest in a Shannon owners Forum?

This is very encouraging. Yes, I would have loved to be sailing in Chicago today. Good wind, sunny and 67 degrees in mid February. Go figure. Anyway, I am starting a refit on a 28. Bill is very helpful and encouraging. Can wait to go sailing when the refit is complete.

Looks like we could just use Cruisers Forum as was suggested by the moderator. That would seem the path of least resistance anyway since we are already here.

Re: Shannon Yachts: is there any interest in a Shannon owners Forum?

Welcome MHB,
Yes, still interested in the Shannon group.
My projects are currently on hold while I work through a couple shoulder surgerys. The plan is to do a slight refit, two new water tanks, solar panels, fix a couple of leaks and redo the brightwork. Then spend next winter in the Bahamas.
Would love to see more action on here!

Re: Shannon Yachts: is there any interest in a Shannon owners Forum?

As Weavis suggested a while back, I sent a PM to David7 and Janet H to find out more about creating a group for Shannon owners. There are just a few of us, but I think it would make searching tech info and specific experiences with Shannon boats easier for all of us.

Dales-I've been dealing with the original tank manufacturer in Bristol.

Really nice people. Idk what stage you're at with your tanks but here is their info if you need it.

Re: Shannon Yachts: is there any interest in a Shannon owners Forum?

Hey Everyone, at the suggestion of the CF admins I created a CF social group called Shannon Owners Group. It is an public group for owners and enthusiasts. Just search the groups and join.

emlesnick, I just requested access to your FB group. Saw the cover photo. Pretty boat. I am also just starting a refit/restoration of a 28. Still in the inspection phase and making my list tasks that must get done before the Chicago sailing season.

Re: Shannon Yachts: is there any interest in a Shannon owners Forum?

Emlesnick, thanks for the info, I'd actually already spoken with Luther's in hope's they might have a record of the tanks dimensions. They said they usually do but my boat was just a little too old, a 1980, but just to send them the dimensions. It is cool though to have some of the original equipment manufacturers still around and interested. Thanks again and good luck with your refit, l'll be following your progress on FB.

Hey emlesnick, You can search social groups from your "User CP". Also, I sent invites to everyone that showed interest. So, check your private messages too.

What are people using as a wood finish for the teak below deck. Seems like Shannon originally used Deks Olje. Bill Ramos said Shannon now uses Daly's Seafin or Epifanes Wood Finish.
