Re: Shannon Yachts: is there any interest in a Shannon owners Forum?

Hello to all:

I have a 1980 Shanon 28 Hull #30. I am located in Rochester, NY and sail Lake Ontario. The sailing season is over for us. I hope to get splashed April 2016. I know of 2 other owners: Main and Connecticut. The factory is a good source of info but they seem to frown on a users group.

Wow, small world, I sailed and lived aboard for many years on a Contessa 26 out of Oswego. Summers on Lake Ontario and winters in the Keys and Bahamas.

Re: Shannon Yachts: is there any interest in a Shannon owners Forum?

Hey everyone,

My wife and I received a letter from Shannon a few weeks ago stating, "...we have formed a Shannon Owners' Club and only members with a password will be able to use our service program in the future...The one time cost of the Shannon Owners' Club is $500.00...and is fully tax deductible...Every penny raised from membership fee will go directly into the Shannon River Marine Heritage Foundation..." There is obviously much more
but I just pulled some of the more pertinent parts. I don't know about anyone else, but my wife and I have called on Shannon boats before for information that we needed, and were given a personal tour of their now defunct business by Bill Ramos. We were also given plenty of literature about Shannon boats. They are still around but moving more into boat restoration work instead of building new yachts. It is important to note that in the past Shannon, has helped owners of their boats in all corners of the globe any time they were asked.

While I'm weighing the idea of weather or not to spend the $500.00 minimum, it seems more important than ever to have a real Shannon Owners Group of our own. This is by no means a slam on Shannon boats or Walter Schulz. I'm just putting this info out there for those who may not be on their mailing list.

According to the letter I received for details on joining the Shannon Owners' Club, go to their website and click on "Owners Club" or contact Bill Ramos at Shannon Boat.

Thanks for the heads up on this Luke. But, I don't think I'll be paying $500 to join an on-line owners' group. Not sure how/why it's tax deductible also. Hmmmm...

We have a Shannon 28, hull #25 in Maine. We'd be interested in a Shannon owners group.

Re: Shannon Yachts: is there any interest in a Shannon owners Forum?

If anyone is interested,I was surfing around on my wife's Facebook page the other day and found a page called Shannon Boat owners. It seems like it only has a couple of people on it, but it is up and running right now. It seems to me to be a logical place for the handful of us that are posting here to go to. With any luck, this might take off and go somewhere.

Re: Shannon Yachts: is there any interest in a Shannon owners Forum?

I'm late to this thread but then again I'm also a new Shannon owner. Mine is a 1981 Pilothouse 38 and so far I'm extremely pleased. I'd also be very interested in an owners group.

In the spirit of collaboration I'll just ask one random question: Do you grease the rudder shaft, and if so how?

Was there any movement on a Shannon owners group? I have a 1981 Shannon 28 hull #29. Was interested in sharing experiences and maintenance tips.

Re: Shannon Yachts: is there any interest in a Shannon owners Forum?

I guess all the other Shannon owners are too busy sailing their boats to be on a owners forum. I better get busy updating our boat and get out there too. BTW I have not greased my rudder shaft.
