Money pit.

Aging systems, multiple new parts bought on spec to use. Unmaintained woodwork, sealed up coachroof window, aged out electronics. Someone bought too much boat with a gleam in their eye and came to realize it was going to cost them a fortune to bring up to standard. Soft decks on a 50’? This is a project boat where you start digging and years later you are still digging and a lot poorer.

Sadly I cannot post photos of some of the most outstanding boats I see on Yachtworld.

Today I came across one that looks like a real beauty. Something special. The kind of boat that would make most sailors proud to own and sail. The kind of boat that most sailors would look at with some admiration and envy and even awe. That kind of boat.

And...the asking price is just $14,863 USD! That is less than $15K USD.

This is a 32 foot day sailor. It would be a "toy" for most sailors. But, what a toy!

Here is the description from the ad:

Vic Carpenter daysailer

When we were on the hard in Ensenada, there was a Maple Leaf 48 that was undergoing major repairs to correct a very soggy Divinycell core in the hull. I don’t remember the name of the boat and we left before the repairs were completed but it had to be a stratospheric yard bill.

A 49' 1972 Hinckley. It claims to need "updating but well worth the effort" which sounds like a PC way of saying it's a project boat. It has no other pics but the one which could be from 1995. It doesn't mention an engine, so Im thinking this boat for the 79k asking price is missing quite a few big bits.

But still, a Hinckley is a Hinckley. And at 49 feet, no easy feat. But it could be worthy for the right person, so I wanted to share this finding. Maybe someone is the right person. If anyone does go look at it, it would be interesting if they post the current state pics.
