Help identifying my Yanmar

Hi,

I am having trouble identifying my engine as I live in a remote part of Australia. And would love some help from anyone that knows there Yanmars.

It is a 3 cyl Yanmar diesel, all the identification plate are missing except for the engine number plate. It is fresh water cooled. The boat was built in London in 1985, but this is not the original engine so I'm unsure of the build year.

I have attached some photos.

Thanks in advance

Re: Help identifying my Yanmar

Mike2612, welcome aboard CF. Sorry I can't directly help but try sending the photos and in particular the engine serial number to Minards; they know Yanmars inside out and I have always found them to be very helpful. IMO, they far more about these engines than the Yanmar authorised distributors in Oz.

I have to say, it's got the most interesting throttle control I have ever seen.

Or maybe it's the fuel shutoff.

Looking at the serial number it's a 3T80 model? A quick online search indicates that was a 3 cylinder tractor engine.

I think you got it right. Used in John Deer and Masey Ferguson, and others I'm sure.

Google image search "3t80 yanmar" to see.

Re: Help identifying my Yanmar

Mike,

Here's what I was able to find out from Yanmar:
Mr. Grant,
Thank you for contacting Yanmar Customer Support. Information for the 3T80 may be very hard to come by. This is a very old engine, also it was not a marine engine. The 3T80 was installed in Yanmar tractors. I have attached the operation manual that I could find. I hope this helps.

Thank You and Best Regards,

Hello,

I'm looking for information on a Yanmar engine installed in a sailboat. The engine number appears to be 3T8OUAC 10803.

Looks to be an after market marinization?
What is that that the water pump drives?

Mike,

Tried to upload the manual, but the file exceeded the size limit. If you want to pm me your email address, I'll try sending it that way.

Re: Help identifying my Yanmar

from googling the 3T80, it does look correct.

Never sold as a marine engine and never in us for anything.

The hardest part of installing in a boat is a transmission. If it works and you can find the parts you need, I say keep it going.
