Fantasizing

OK...so if one were sitting around dreaming of the"perfect" boat to spend cruising the world and had to pick between a Swan (spent youth on my neighbors), a Hallberg Rassey or a Hylas...all in the 45ft range.
Sometimes its just fun to dream

Re: fantasizing

You HAVE to pick between those 3? I am curious why? Welcome here BTW.

Re: fantasizing

None of the above... If that's the size range then the DNA F4 is what I have been drooling over recently. In a monohull then a carbon Pogo 12.50.

Re: Fantasizing

OK, given the constraints "world cruising, HR (46 I presume) and Hylas (also 46, 45, 44?) and Swan (not sure which one, but since you mentioned you sailed one when you were younger, it's the older vintage S&S 44,) and I presume unlimited budget. Well the Hylas and Hallberg are both Frers designs, fairly similar I believe. I probably shouldn't chime in because I haven't set foot on either of those. Both have good reputations though. I bet you'll get equal votes for both. The Swan being older will probably not be the better choice, of the 3. I hate to say that 'cause I lusted after those when I was a kid too. Are you hunting for the "world's best world cruiser at 45 feet?" Let the games begin!
OK, edit: after a little research I am betting the HR will win out, being the heavier of the 2 and specifically having a more world cruising displacement to length ratio than the Hylas.

Re: Fantasizing

oops, ok if you are looking at the Hylas 47, that is very similar to the HR 46...in all dimensions, so pick your builder.

Re: Fantasizing

My favorite inter-island hopper would be a downsized Singapore Air 777. First class sleeper seat, couple movies, start with a bloody mary, get some good sleep (no anchor dragging) and awake in time to walk out to the warm, pungent air of a pre-dawn Pacific morning (minus the chickens).

Re: Fantasizing

Since we're talking dreams and fantasies, mine would be the boat where nothing ever breaks down or wears out, the deck hardware never needs re-bedding, and the bilges and heads always smell sweet as a morning rose. You did say it was a fantasy...
