Boat size

What size boat should I consider to cruise southwest florida to the Keys and maybe the Bahamas? I have been looking at the used Hunters 34' to 38'. I am very new at this. Are there any cruising clubs a person could join.

Re: Boat size

That's a pretty decent size. Maybe take an ASA course which will put you on a typical production sailboat. You'll learn some skills and get some exposure to layouts and boat size.

Re: Boat size

For your choice of cruising area I would suggest a boat with no more than a five foot draft. Size (LOA) will not really be a factor of your cruising area choice, but a result of your comfort and personal adaptation. Storage is a factor. We are very comfortable with 50 gallons of water per person per month away from a source to refill. Some do with less. You don't mention your prospective home port, but most areas have local cruising clubs.
