Looking for More Experience

My wife and I have day-sailed our Precision 23 for over 20 years, but we want to sail on larger boats, and acquire more skills. We took early retirement from our professions and want to explore sailing more extensively. If you need a couple of good people on your boat who are eager to learn and help, we're excellent candidates.

We are mid- to late-50s. I'm fairly fit for my age at 6' 3" and 200 lbs, and a recreational runner. My wife knows her way around a sailboat, and is an excellent cook. We are considerate, quiet, non-smokers. Everyone has their personal quirks, and we tend to get along with anyone short of total jerks.

We're based in North Carolina, so our interests lie in sailing along the east coast, Gulf, Bahamas and Caribbean. I'd say to start, we're interested in opportunities of one or two weeks, or shorter if close to NC, but certainly we're open to discuss anything. We'll pay our share of the expenses and of course do our share of the work.

Send a PM or post here and I'll be in touch. Thanks.

<Waves at fellow Precision Sailor>

Maybe you are looking for rougher weather/ longer passages, as we found that going from our Precision 18 to a Pearson 39, the sailing itself wasn't much different (and hey, your P23 has winches, whereas the 18 doesn't). The real challenges are motoring and all the new systems.

I will keep an eye on what you find, as we would love to sail when we spend a week on the east coast next year celebrating my parents' 50th.

Re: Looking for more experience

They are great boats, aren't they? Our 23 is a 1990 model, and it has had zero problems, even though it has stayed in the water the entire time, except for being hauled out for inspection a couple of times, new bottom paint once, and that is about it except for normal wear.

Sailing larger boats is one goal. Exploring other waters is also big on our list.

I saw that one. I have some family events planned until mid-November. Great opportunity. I'll keep my eye on another one.

Re: Looking for more experience

I lined up a trip from NC to Nassau with a great couple of owners, but they have been delayed by a water maker installation that will take longer than they expected. That trip might still happen, but they told me to keep looking if I want to.

I don't want to be away for Christmas, but I am still looking to crew for someone between now and mid-December.

Preferably something starting or ending in the US Southeast.

Purdy dang cool you were able to line up a few possibilities so quickly... This is not the norm... Too bad the departures were delayed... THIS IS THE NORM!

Keep yer eyes peeled... ya seem to have the knack!

Purdy lucky, maybe.

If I lived closer to the coast, I'd help them with the install.

If not soon, then maybe something will come along after the first of the year. If I knew then what I know now, I'd have started the search earlier, to catch more of the boats heading south.

Haha, yeah, that is plenty of notice.

My wife is actually very good at all types of finishing and painting. Maybe I can send her up to bank some sailing time for me.
