Need Advice on Panama to Tonga Trip October 15

Could anyone please tell me the weather and kind of condition expected October -November crossing from Panama via Galapagos to Marianas, to Tahiti to Tonga.
Boat is a Lagoon 42 cat, fully equiped except for a single side band. He has never made this crossing before and his first time with a cat. He is a Beneteau guy. He has an Iridium phone and expects to use that for weather. I told him that he should have a SSB. Please give me your opinions on both conditions and ability to get weather information.

Thanks James

Beth and Evans on Hawk use Iridium for their weather. See comments on their web site http://www.bethandevans.com

Sunny and warm most of the time with occasional showers, maybe a thunderstorm about the time you expect to be making landfall, but that will produce a lovely rainbow to look at.

SSB is an expensive waste of time, space and more complicated electronics.

Iridium phone for short phone calls would be better. But cheaper is Skymate (.com)

We just went. As in no SSB, no satelite phones etc etc. For weather just look up.
