This one could reach hurricane status in a day or two. The water is extremely warm right now. It should make a hard turn to starboard and head toward Bermuda. It bears keeping an eye on if you are in the path or plan to be.

We had wind speeds like that nearly every other day last summer in Northern Sardinia... and loved it! Only needed to use the engine once over a six week period. The winds came up every day.

Heading back next season for more sailing.

Mark,

We hope you and all your neighbors will be safe.

It looks like the lower Bahamas might get the hurricane part of this. Probably tons of rain for Haiti that they don't need as well.

I was on Grand Cayman last week and was really surprised at how warm the water is. It was 87F at the surface and only dropped to 86F at 100 feet. There is a lot of energy available for Gonzalo to suck up. I hope they are right and it doesn't get past Cat 2 before it heads back into the Atlantic.

and you are not necessarily safe in the Lagoon! Plenty of sunken wrecks in there from the previous cane when we were in there!

Acording to NOAAA they are going to have a kick from the west at 40 knts at least, trust me, you dont want to be in marigot with a strong westerly, in this particular case best place is tied to a dock or haul out, others are in hurricane moorings in the lagoon , could be fine to, but marigot bay no no...

From the Noaa buoy website it looks to have passed to the west of Barbuda in the last hour with max winds recorded of 52kt gusting 61kt.

Good luck.
