Also really helps to drain and rinse the okra after lightly boiling.
You may already know this, but to get the roux dark enough, brown the dry flour in the pan until it get's light brown and then add the butter.

Amazon offers many free kindle books too. A surprising amount oddly. Just need the free kindle reader for non-amazon tablets.

Kindle and Apple Ibooks both have several thousand quality titles for free. Lots of cookbooks, lots of great reads. I downloaded a copy of Sailing Alone Around The World by Joshua Slocum yesterday for free.

One can now get books from the internet like the kids got their music. Not saying anything legally or morally, just sayin.

Loads of books to download on Google Play for no actual money - all they ask in return is that you give them access to all your personal information forever.
Oh yeah - and update a dozen apps every time you start Chrome.

You can disable the auto update "Feature" in Google Play settings.

Hi sailorchic, yes, I keep auto update disabled on everything except my new phone.
edit: actually it is disabled but the notifications still annoy me.
One day soon I'll find the time to try all their exciting (to an adolescent) new apps before ripping them out. Might find something worthwhile, you never know.

When I do accept updates from MS or Google I know they'll sometimes be downgrades or worse - but who has the time to check out everything first?
Like Google maps - brilliant before they castrated it.

Thanks for the info.

Cell phone booster? Sorry, I'm sure this has been covered but with limited connection I can't find it. T-mobile signal is weak in several harbors in SoCal. Any advice on mobile cell phone booster?

I'm thinking that boats got way too much teak for a shoestring sailor. Plus the price is about twice what a shoestring sailor might buy.

That boat is more for the $1500-$2000/month cruiser. Good lord the teak deck is way too high maintenance as is all the external teak and oh lord it's got a wood mast too. Thats $300-$400 a year for varnish, brushes, sandpaper and way too many hours with a hot air gun and scraper. You've got to really love to varnish. I lived on a tayana 37 for 3 years, which is a larger version of the baba 30. Lovely lovely boats. But not for the poor sailor.

Nope, shoestring sailors need a very low maintenance boat. The Baba 30 is a lovely boat, but is not low maintenance.

I'm far too polite myself, but I'm glad you said what I was thinking SC. $30 K is not a shoestring boat. $5 K is shoestring imo.

[QUOTE=frank_f;1501878]Or you could go with this from another thread.None of my friends have running engines so we cant move it. I cant afford seatow @350. But maybe some one out there can, registration and transfer is only $50 plus tax depending on sale price. For 2 grand you could be sailing. Google the history if this swedish built vessel. Call or text. I am a motivated seller, no offer too small .

This is the shoestring boat. And for only 2 grand: Hahahahahahahahahahahaah!

$100 buys that boat. And that's far too much. Free would be too much. It's former grandeur and splendor is in the seagrass.
