Two people in two days! And three in around a week. You'd think it's probably the same shark.

Obviously the shark is smarter than the people.
Its figured out there's a regular feed but the people haven't figured out they are on the menu.

Thats more than likely as sharks dont usually like the taste of humans,
Problem being is when they spit you out again you are in 3 peices,

On the Great Ocean Road down here, From the top of the cliffs, you can see the sharks swimming under the surfers waiting for a wave,
They dont get bitten by the sharks, And they do have big sharks under them,
The surfers dont worry about the sharks either,

If you can't see them they aren't there.
At least that's what I tell myself hookah on doing a bottom job even though I know there is a resident tiger in the area.
Abalone divers say the same.

Re: Salt Water Crocs in the Whitsundays

For you locals, is Cid Harbour a standard stop on Whitsundays cruises? How many of the charter boaters make it back to the mainland alive?

Re: Salt Water Crocs in the Whitsundays

Cid harbour is a very popular anchorage. It's big, well sheltered, reasonable depth, good holding and an easy sail from Hamilton island, Airlie and Shute harbour, where all the charters start and end.

It's also a very pretty place, and there are some nice walks there.

Consequently it's fairly normal to find well over 50 boats there.

Re: Salt Water Crocs in the Whitsundays

I once counted over 75 anchored boats in Cid Harbour during a September school holiday period.

People are always jumping in the water at dusk, almost exclusively from charter boats. I'm surprised that sharks taste testing humans hasn't been more common. Especially considering the amount of food scraps that get thrown overboard there. I was amazed one time to see a half eaten lamb leg washed up on Sawmill Beach. At least I hope it was a lamb leg!

Horrific, I remember swimming at Cid hbr. From memory it was a bit muddy with the nearby mangroves? What are people thinking the likely shark type, a bullshark?

The radio just said that an expert suggested it was a bull shark based on the bite marks.

Re: Salt Water Crocs in the Whitsundays

We mustn't taste too good. The amount of bites that leave people gushing blood and the sharks just seem to let the people swim or paddle to safety. You would think there is ample opportunity to finish the job so they must choose not to have another bite.

And these sharks eat spare tyres and number plates, how bad must we taste to come in behind a spare tyre.

They call humans Long Pig in Papua New Guinea, so I guess we are delicious if cooked right..... like what happened to John Rockefeller Jr in 1961. The locals know all about it, I lived in Port Moresby for awhile and hung out on the crazy streets at night. Kind of living on the edge.

Re: Salt Water Crocs in the Whitsundays

Hearing from a friend who's in the Whitsundays, there's been yet another shark attack in Cid Harbour.
