Neptune Be Damned - Boat Renamed!!

Took a few weeks for the good old Dept of Homeland Security to process the paperwork, but we've renamed her again (de-named I guess is appropriate). She now sports her originally christened name "TREKKER" once again.

Wifey didn't much take to the boat anyway..... but I figure the boat will be around longer

Just kidding dear... of course...

Now where was the text of that re-naming ceremony that appeases the gods and prevents misfortune? I think changing the name in the first place was the source of our troubles. Yeah that's it - the GODS did those dumb things and not the previous owner...

Maintaining the tradition...

My problem with maintaining the traditions relating to Neptune is that they have no basis in tradition, just what a few over imaginative individuals thought up a hundred or so years ago.

There is no literature to indicate that the Greek god Poseidon or his Roman equivalent Neptune had any thoughts on boat names whatsoever.

Challenging a God - now there is some interesting literature on that.

Not sure if I would have phrased it quite like that!

But I reckon that reverting to her original name is NOT "renaming" her and in any case in accordance with my copy of Ye Olde Worlde Gods manual - Clause 87, Section D (iv) you actually get bonus points for doing so.

Me? I would never re-name a boat just in case .........BUT I have never really liked the name of my current boat (not hated it, just not liked it - "Perro" = dog in Spanish).........and I am presently tempted to re-name her after my late wife - "Wayluya". But I am not sure if this would sound quite right when responding to enquiries about what I am up to at the weekend with "I am going down on Wayluya / the wife"

Aloha Mark,

If you need a chicken to sacrifice I've got an old rooster you can have. Give me your address and I'll ship him over.

Good luck with the ceremony. This one talks about spilling virgin's blood or at least urine on the boat. Good thing my boat partner has a 4 year old...
