Re: Music to Sail by . . .

If it is night time under the stars, just about anything from Electric Ladyland, especially the Voodoo Chile's and 1984...
(if the plankton and jellies are fluorescing - definitely)

If anchored, quiet and still, but in a new place, maybe a little mist or haze, the beginning of Act II, Swan lake.

(Enjoyed the Coppelia suggestion)

Gotta agree with you and Zeehag. Music can be a distraction when on board. You'll miss a lot when it is on. I like to hear the cry of the Osprey and watch it snatch a Bluefish from the water. Music can mask that. I sometimes play music in the background when I'm working on a project down below. However, in the off season or when one is stuck on land it can be a good reminder of the good times on the water. While not really a happy sailing song Flowers of Bermuda by Stan Rodgers does get my toes a tappin'.

I like Enya music. I listen to Pax Deorum and imagine a big ship going through the water.

Re: Music to Sail by . . .

Sarah Dashew, of Dashew fame, is a great musician and songwriter. I don't know about her lastest few albums, but her First Album (here) is all about sailing and her life growing up on the boat. Great music!

Re: Music to Sail by . . .

i will listen to music after i know all is well and the wind and sea have given me a big hit--to celebrate the small lil victory of success on the water and to appease gods...listening to the boat is good and listening to the sea is awesome.. winds can change with only a small sound of warning....i like to listen ...
but all across the calm and flat sea of cortez we did listen to the buicks, loudly-- mebbe is why i didnt catch any fishies for the entire trip across that sea.....
we did catch a lot of fish when no music was on. saw more dolphin also.....

Love that piece. Sang it in a choir when I still had a voice.

Re: Music to Sail by . . .

although i love music and always have music in my brain, there is no music i have ever heard that can improve on this...

i used to be a singer--until surgery nixed that, and i have written music....i still see no way to improve on this and what we have been granted to witness in nature.
