Long-Term Outlook for Cruising

Don't be put off by earlier posting regards the Med. Lots of places with free anchorages especially in Greece and lots of out of the way places, Sardinia , Corsica, Balearics, Italy just to name but a few!! Also the rich variation of food and wine. One of the best cruising grounds in the world are around Scotland , mainly West coast, if you don't mind wobbly water and bracing swims!! Visiting the distillaries is a high light !!! See.you there!!!

ACKshully... Rayjay described Greece as having lots of places with free anchorages.

OP here. Just want to say thanks for all of the replies. It is interesting hearing different sides and different opinions on the topic. Also, I didn't mean for my initial post to be negative or glass half empty, it is just based on news and information that I get both from mainstream media as well as other sources including sailing forums. I don't have anything else to add really - but I do continue to monitor this thread and appreciate the input.

'good for you, Mark. I like to see people that can enjoy the broad spectrum. Too many applaud the small individual boats that we are on and denigrate the "big boys". I enjoy hearing from those that can adapt well to both worlds. Too many here might be quick to say something negative about this form of cruising, but there's no real comparison. It's not to be judged as the same activity at all!

Nancie and I sometimes take a vacation from our cruising to spend a couple weeks on cruise ships. I know I won't have my boat on the Nile, the Yang-Tse, the Amazon, Alaska, Hawaii, the Galapagos Islands or cruising from Australia to New Zealand, but we've been there on vessels like this or smaller.

I have a little difficulty when someone is quick to pick up the napkin that falls from my lap, but I do enjoy the food, the variety of people and the leisure.

Everywhere we go. We only payed for a mooring two days last season, five months total.
