Something like this. Have been meaning to get one for years. Like someone else mentioned, decided to reduce head maintenance issues like this (and others) and go compost, which have their own set of maintenance items. I'll let you know if the trade-off was worth it in a year or so.

Take the y-valve out while your at it and soak it in vinegar or CLR. You might even have to disassemble and scrape it clean. Just did mine after 9 years.

I poured boiling water on them to soften them and use dishwashing liquid on the hoses and valve when applying the new hoses

google hose removal tool. Second choicce is to reach carefully for my dremel which no boater should be without. :-)

Since they have been mentioned a couple times here is an example of the hose removal tools. I'm not recommending these in particular, just showing an example.
