Forum Member's Boat and Daughter in Trouble off of Mexico

Connie and I have been following Rebel Hearts trip from the start and had a bunch of smiles remembering our early days with 2 5 yr olds a 3 yr old and a 8 mo old ! I can only thank God and good luck that we were never in this position! I feel Eric is doing the best things he can for his family ! If they are to take the youngest child off the vessel, then Im pretty sure the mother and the other child will have to be taken of as well ! As Ive never been there I sure can't tell anybody what I would do If I were in this fix!! And I guess it's easy to say what yall would do from your soft seat behind your puter as I am !! But be where he is right now ! No way anybody could say what they would do !! Heres us saying good luck Rebel Heart, our thoughts and prayers are with ya !!

I know of a situation whereby a child of similar age fell ill as did the rest of the family. But the child became severely dehydrated. The family was traveling in a moderately remote part of Central America on land. By the time they arrived at the hospital by car (which was the only option) the child had become comatose and eventually died 24 hours later.

The kicker is the father was an MD and the mother was an RN. They simply did not have the capability without an acute medical facility to resuscitate the child without more advanced equipment.

The reason I mention this is that no second guessing should go on as to the appropriateness of the rescue.

Sounds like a good outcome is in store for all.

I'm with bobconnie in wishing Eric and his family a safe return to the mainland. He is a knowledgeable and competent sailor only too willing to share what he knows and his experiences on his blog and on CF. I pray that all goes well and the marvelous rescue group of the 129th get there in time. I'm sure that once the family is safe, Eric well do all he can to get Rebel Heart back to port in one piece... after all, it has been his and his family's home for a long time. If anybody can make the right decisions under these circumstances, it's Eric... my prayers are with you and your family, mate... cheers, Phil

They are both experienced sailors and experienced parents. This isn't their first rodeo, in other words, I think they did the right thing, whatever that's worth .
Looks like baby is responding well. Sending heartfelt prayers for Rebel Heart and her crew especially her littlest one!

Just had another thought... don't know how Char and the kids are fixed financially when they get home, maybe Steve (ssw914) knows but if they need a hand, Eric has a heap of friends he has made both on CF and on the Sonrisa net.
We could all chip in like we did when Boatman61 got stiffed in Perth last year and make sure she is OK. Where is she going to be staying? Mexico or San Diego?
The cruising world is tens of thousands of miles long but only a mile or so wide so we all know someone who knows someone and should stick together.
Steve, if you could let us know what Char' and the kids situation is, please get the word out. I think it might take a load off Eric's mind...

I don't have any information about their financial condition, only that they didn't need to complain about the lack of money as loudly as I do. That isn't saying much. They always seemed to be OK but never wasteful or flamboyant.

Well, the most important bit of news there is the baby's health is improving!

I watching the channel 7 here in Los Angeles and they had a update in S/V Rebel Heart. A USCG boat will rendezvous with them tomorrow and the report was positive.

Their are in our thoughts and prayers.

It would be nice if one or two crew could fly out and help bring Rebel Heart back to shore. That would be another burden off his back! He's been working on his boat and this trip for a long time and it would be a shame to lose it all due to an illness that's not fatal.
