Re: Best Sailing Dingy Build Kit?

If you looked at the CG approved capacity will the PT11 be listed to carry 4 people? How about the Chameleon? If you can't take two couples to dinner it limits some of the usefulness when cruising. I couldn't find real specs. on their web site....

I really like the PT11 and the kit is great but it sure is pricy.......

buy_a_pt11

I WISH!!! The $1990 is only the sail rig with foils. The kit for the boat is $1940 without epoxy. Boat+epoxy+sailrig=$4395 without any other options.

Owch! Eeesh, maybe I better put a kit together that people can afford. There should be a kit around $2,000 tops

Sorry about that, must have been confused by their weird subtotal setup. I still think this is a good price for this kit. You couldn't build it from scratch for less, if you pay yourself a moderate wage for hours. The poster who earlier said you just cut the panels with a jig saw has clearly never built this way, each panel edge must have a running bevel planed into it.

There are. But they don't include things like a carbon fiber rig. Do you know how long it takes to build a rig and sails from scratch for even a dinghy? This boat was designed and is manufactured by Russell Brown, son of Jim Brown. Yes, that Jim Brown. Look at the prices of finished boats in this quality range, ie Gig Harbor Boatworks, Whitehall Row, etc. 10k-25k.

Yea, Jim has designed and Built beautiful high quality boats and has built himself a great reputation, thus the reason why his boats can fetch those prices

Re: Best Sailing Dingy Build Kit?

Try Chesapeake Light Craft, quality kits, computer cut, everything needed to build, very reasonable prices

What does Jim Brown's work have to do with the high price of quality dinghies?
