Best Sailing Dingy Build Kit?
My son is getting ready to graduate in leave for the Marine Corps. We decided we want to build a sailing dingy together before he leaves. We have never built anything before and are looking for suggestions for a great kit. I would like it to serve as a dingy for about a 32 ft sailboat. Would also like it to be a decent fun sailer to use when you snatch that great mooring and don't want to give it up to go sailing. At this point, I am considering the Eastport Pram. Any thoughts are much appreciated.

The problem with most hard dinks that will function as a tender for a boat that size is that they are too small to perform well. The answer is a nesting dinghy. The nicest nesting kit I know of (and it's very nice), is the Port Townsend 11.

Re: Best Sailing Dingy Build Kit?
After finding out first hand how tippy an 8 foot hard tender is and not having enough deck room for a larger dink I started looking into nesting dinghies. The one design I keep running into with good reviews is the Chameleon by Danny Greene. You can rig it for just rowing or add a sail kit too. Sorry to say getting the plans and building one is still on my to-do-list.
Here are some links if you're interested:

Re: Best Sailing Dingy Build Kit?
Guessing time is short and you are looking more at kits. I'm building an Eastport Nesting Pram for my Bayfield 29. Not that far along but kit seems complete, instruction manual is adequate. Need a minimum of tools (many clamps) and it appears that even I can't muck it up so far. I got the sailing rig for it also. At least one other hanging off of davits on a far larger boat at my marina. Cannot yet comment as to how it floats but it looks pretty darn good.

I should put a sail on my 10 foot catamaran dinghy. I bet it would fly

Re: Best Sailing Dingy Build Kit?
You can get a kit at all stages, from just plans to a finished boat.

Re: Best Sailing Dingy Build Kit?
Really nice nesting design. This boat can be assembled or disassembled in the water, while you are in it.
