What is the best month to sail Md to Fl

Planning to sail to keys where boat will remain. Planning to leave late May early June. Any suggestions or recommendations appreciated.

In georiga in late may we were attacked by these large mean flies that didn't disappear until the middle of the Chesapeake Bay. You wack them once with a flyswatter but thst just made them angry. At anytime we had dozens off dead flies on the deck

Moving to Florida with the start of hurricane season. Mind the wx, see how your insurer feels about hurricanes, and make provision for them as soon as you get down there, if not sooner. The bookmakers say that since Florida has had five or ten very quiet years, this year could be time for a bad one.

Staying in Chess or going up to Maine during the summer is the usual path. Why south before the fall?

Just purchased the boat in mid February. Wanted to spend a couple of months getting to know the boat 40' cat.

If you're talking about actually sailing...the answer is probably none (best month). You're going against the prevailing winds, pretty much year round. Otherwise, if you want to wait until after cold fronts come through, you can get a nice push south for a day or two, by hugging the shore the waves won't be so bad and you'll make good progress. I would get started soon if you want to exploit the cold fronts. Otherwise, plan on beating to windward and making slow progress, or getting lucky, or motoring. Pete

That that is what we needed to hear. Work is dictating our schedule. Our plan is to sail to southern end of Chesapeake, enter the ICW near Norfolk and go outside through Beaufort inlet. It seems after Beaufort there are many inlets if weather approaches.

Pretty much guarenteed, because I bought a boat this year
