Clearing into Utila

Its my understanding that clearing into Honduras has changed since I was there a year and half ago. Has anyone cleared into Roatan or Utila in the last year? Would like to clear into Utila by sea if its still possible.
Thanks
John

Re: Clearing into Utila

We have cleared into and out of Utila in the past year, and out of Roatan.

Roatan is expensive and difficult. It will probably take you two days to get everything done if you can track down the port captain and get the immigration officer to even give you the time of day. The offices are not near any cruiser anchorage, so you will be taking taxis or buses to get there. The buses do not run straight there, so you will be making non-intuitive transfers.

Utila is a cakewalk. You go to the port captain and immigration - which are side by side offices right in town by the harbor, pay some very small amount ($5?) and you are done.

Guanaja is likewise a cakewalk, if you want to check out there, or are coming from that direction.

It is possible that this has all changed in the past year, since we have been gone for 9 months or so.

Re: Clearing into Utila

Slightly off track as mainland Honduras

DO NOT CHECK IN/OUT IN PUERTO CORTEZ as it is not Cruiser friendly, the port is set up for merchant ship

We picked up a boat in the naval shipyard in Puerto Cortez and took it back to the Rio Dulce last November, although not expensive, to check out took about 4 hours and required a dedicated taxi for the whole period due to the running around.

We have also heard that La Cieba Harbour master is charging a fee that is not charged on the Bay islands or Puerto Cortez

If you have an SSB, Your best source of up to date information will be via a question on the NW Caribbean SSB net on 6208 at 08:00am local

Honduran fees are known to vary depending where you go!!!!
