Norway as a Destination

Ahoy
I'll place a link here to my thread in the Norwegian Shores Group.

I'm not a media mongul, I just think editing and making videos are fun and at the same time I could make a fool out of my self. Anyways, I hope the videos could be nice to watch, and please: I like comments on them good or bad. And if there are someone that wants to see somthing or places in the south east part of Norway I'll see what I could do.

Thanks for sharing those. Keep them coming. My family is from the SW area of Haugesund Norway. When capturing scenes try using a tripod and a slower pan if you have not tried one yet.

Very nice video work. Your technique improved over time. While all three showed your beautiful country I felt the way you edited the second two was much better, less choppy. I look forward to your next video and Merry Christmas.

Re: Norway as a Destination

Thanks, good to get some feedback.

jacob30: I just bought myself a tripod so more steady shots will come in the next one. I have found that the Steady shoot application on my video camera are more enoying than helpfull. That's why there are sudden moves and I have to find out how to turn it of.

Greggegner: Thanks and Merry christmas to you aswell.

Re: Norway as a Destination

Headwind, thank you for the beautiful videos of Norway--an ancestral homeland to many of us in the U.S. There is, to me, a strong primordial feeling when viewing the scenes of fjords, mountains and forest that, to some might be inexplicable, but I believe is rooted deeply in our genetic ancestral memory. I will leave the technical comments to others and your growing experience in videos, but I personally enjoyed the music in the first and third films and felt they were more appropriate to the subject matter. I do, however, say this with some prejudice and a strong dislike for Rock Music. Classical or classically based music seems, to me, more appropriate for the content of your videos. Good luck and good sailing bror Viking.

Re: Norway as a Destination

Thank you for sharing those Headwind. I agree with Gregg that your camera and editing technique are much improved in #2 and 3. It is really hard to not move the camera quickly when panning and slowly zooming in and especially out. Maybe cameras should have adjustable zoom speed limits in the setup.

What editing software are you using?
Thanks again and have a Merry Christmas

Re: Norway as a Destination

Thanks again for all the comments.

Palarran: Yes, a adjustable or lockable zoom speed had been great. However I do belive that now that I have a tripod I could do the panning and zooming more carefully. I use a program called AVS cheap and good enough.

Best yet, great music selection. Once winter is over how about a travel log or two. Thanks for the effort here. This stuff takes a lot of time to complete.

Re: Norway as a Destination

Lovely. I have not yet visited Norway and I hope to do that soon.

A tip regarding your videos: you have instances where you have music over windnoise. Example: video 3 at 1:15, the noise is really bad. Whenever I have windnoise, I just mute the audio track - it is very distracting and really doesn't add anything in terms of mood or atmosphere. So I let the music do the talking. Occasionally, I might add a soundtrack with bird noise or something, but that is cheating! And you have to be careful, a bird expert might hear that the bird came from Africa... LOL!

It is worth your while investing in a really good microphone with a cover to reduce windnoise and record local sounds.

Keep up the good work! Your videos make me want to travel to Norway!

Re: Norway as a Destination

Onno:

Indeed I always try to filter out the wind noice, now one of my video cameras does not have an mic option and on the other there is a matter of putting some fuzzy stuff around the mic thats allready there. However, the wind is a factor and almost everypresent in Norway, so I count it as a part of the video. However I thinnk it's more of a problem over dialog. But thanks a lot for the tip. Take care m8.
