Bizzare.
My boom is stuffed into the quarter berth, I do it every winter before the mast comes down and the boat is put away in the cradle. I also take down the bimini like the current owner did in the same photo. I do fold and bag my sails tho ;-)

Oh and those freaking models are expensive.

Sometimes FREE TO GOOD HOME is still way too much money.

Yep. Good example of "the most expensive boat you will ever own is the one you get for free."

Re: Post the Worst "For Sale" Picture You've Seen.

Okay, so this is not about a worst picture, but here's another one of my pet peeves when it comes to sailboat ads...

You find a listing for a fairly popular boat. This boat came in both a shoal draft, and a deep draft version. Let's just say, for example, that the shoal draft version draws 4'3" while the deep draft version draws 5'8". This is a well-known model, and these are the only two versions that were sold. The listing that you're looking at says the boat has a draft of 5 feet even. WTH!?!

Is this a custom boat? Doesn't say so. Perhaps this is the shallow draft version, but the owner has loaded it down with so much crap that it's riding 9" deeper in the water than it was designed to. Either that, or the seller just has his head up his backside and hasn't got the least friggin' clue what his boat's real draft is. (My money is on the latter.)

The moral of the story is, if you're going to sell your boat then spend some time and find out what the designed specifications for it are, and if you have done things to change those specs then make that clear. When you list your boat showing significantly different specs than any that the manufacturer ever published, you need to explain!

Just one of the three revealing photos of the boat. If those clues don't help you figure it out, there's the description:

Well it is a photo and the ad has 2 more equally interesting photos showing very little.

Not the worst photo....just one of the more confusing ones.
Is it a catamaran? Is it a food truck? Is it a really large lunchbox?
It may well be all of the above!
It is what it is (whatever the hell it is....)

At least they got their project into the water. I hope they had an experimental concept in mind. I'm not seeing it, but maybe they came up with something...

I think it's solid. No air cavities. Hey there, hold on a second! Does aluminum float?

$20K ally might...

Actually, I think I understand how it works.

It's kind of clever, the whole submerged bit appears to be a "drive tunnel" (think Hunt for the Red October, caterpillar drive) and there looks to have been some kind of paddle wheel mechanism in the box on the deck in the photo of the vessel in the water. Flotation from the two end curved boxes, though they inexplicably appear to be out of the water in the aforementioned photo. (edit: might still be on trailer on launch ramp in the photo.)

Aside from the budget, the whole thing has a pleasant "school project" feel about it that appeals to me.

Matt
